The following list is my take on 2016's 10 Most Important Events/happenings. Please add your own list, top 10, top 3, etc. Comments are always helpful.
1. Donald Trump elected president
2. Hillary Clinton disempowered
3. Republicans retain Supreme Court

Your ideas and comments welcomed
1thru4 are facets of the same thing.
The Silent Majority woke up, and without telegraphing their intentions, rose up and went to the polls and voted for DJT.
3. Republicans retain Supreme Court
1. Donald Trump elected president
2. Donald Trump elected president
3. Donald Trump elected president
4. Donald Trump elected president

7. Donald Trump elected president
8. Donald Trump elected president

UN Desolution 2334
The whole world realizes Obumer is a flake.
I agree, but I see each as a separate important happening. Scotus, for example, owes its lack of a Scalia replacement to Mitch McConnell.
Huge.
Awaiting a justice in the tradition of Antonin Scalia.
Yep. Jerusalem is a burden to the nations.
I might combine them like this: A coalition of patriotic traditional Americans rallied behind businessman Donald Trump who was elected President against all odds. In doing so, Trump essentially took over the Republican Party, redirecting it to support his MAGA agenda, and creating a new leadership team that includes former rivals, the new media, and distinguished leaders of accomplishment from outside government. As a result the GOP retains control of Congress and more state governments than ever, and the ability to recreate a conservative majority on the Supreme Court.
Cubs win World Series
Bob Dylan wins Nobel Prize
I got a divorce
Dylan was huge.
Cubbies not so much. Another big market bought team....meh.
Divorce is only exceeded by its terms.
The Silent Majority....ya know...I agree with you.
1. Donald Trump elected as the nation’s 45th President.
2. - 10. Some other things.
#3 might also be.
This gives room to add a couple:
1. Obama/Kerry/Power perfidy in U.N.vote against Israel. This event will lead to "fixing" the U.N. - fix has lot's of meanings, and here I mean like fix your cat.
2. The terrorist actions in the West which collectively lead to Brexit and the election of Trump.
3. I would replace #9 with the fall of the lamestream meadia and rise of social media and alt-media [here I would list the two great heroes who put lives and fortunes at stake Assange and O'Keefe.
4. The rise of "enlightened" populism - using social media to carry on a public debate on real issues affecting the people, and the displacing of both the DNC and GOPee as the political power brokers.
Good stuff. My defense of 1-4 is that they are each separately important.
I agree about the Israel vote. It’s so new, though, that it’s hard for me to put in perspective.
Your numbers 3 and 5 seem similar to me.
"Hillary Clinton disembowelled" would have made number one if it happened.
