Novelist Toni Morrison, winner of the Pulitzer Prize, the Nobel Prize, and the American Book Award, has written a short essay in the New Yorker magazine about the recent presidential election.
In the piece, Morrison writes that the election of Donald Trump to the presidency is part of a reaction by white men to an increasingly multicultural society.
Under slave laws, Morrison writes, the necessity for color rankings was obvious, but in America today, post-civil-rights legislation, white peoples conviction of their natural superiority is being lost. Rapidly lost. There are people of color' everywhere, threatening to erase this long-understood definition of America. And what then? Another black President? A predominantly black Senate? Three black Supreme Court Justices? The threat is frightening.
She continues:
To keep alive the perception of white superiority, these white Americans tuck their heads under cone-shaped hats and American flags and deny themselves the dignity of face-to-face confrontation, training their guns on the unarmed, the innocent, the scared, on subjects who are running away, exposing their unthreatening backs to bullets. Surely, shooting a fleeing man in the back hurts the presumption of white strength? The sad plight of grown white men, crouching beneath their (better) selves, to slaughter the innocent during traffic stops, to push black womens faces into the dirt, to handcuff black children. Only the frightened would do that. Right? These sacrifices, made by supposedly tough white men, who are prepared to abandon their humanity out of fear of black men and women, suggest the true horror of lost status.
Morrison concludes, So scary are the consequences of a collapse of white privilege that many Americans have flocked to a political platform that supports and translates violence against the defenseless as strength. These people are not so much angry as terrified, with the kind of terror that makes knees tremble.
Are all black artists, actors, writers and musicians racists?
Is that a requirement? It sure seems to be.
Toni needs to spend some quality time on the South Side of Chicago.
Amazing how many folks who could use some psychiatric help think they’re psychiatrists....
I think it is high time to remove all of the civil rights and equal rights laws, and get back to one country, with the same laws protecting EVERYONE.
But that is just me.
:D
You’d think Kant-ye would have it covered for all of them, but no.
“Pulitzer Prize, the Nobel Prize, and the American Book Award”
Proof that she is an incompetent, untalented affirmative action writer.
Obviously the Pulitzer Prize isn’t what it used to be. I struggled through this untethered mess and still came away thinking “in what twisted reality is she living?” She either needs professional help and lots of meds, or needs to cut way back on the self-medicating.
Look bad data in, bad results out. Toni only listens to crap, so crap is all she has for us.
How is wanting more jobs for everyone in the United States racist? Especially when the segregation laws are never going to get torn down? People need to just be honest, it’s not racism, it’s just that the Democrats screwed up on ruling the country over the course of 8 years and the Republicans started winning.
The first slave owner in america was a black man.
This is obviously a propaganda rant of the far alt left narrative about race relationships and her personal bigotry and racism towards Whites, Hispanics and Asian.
Just another loser with soap box!
Decades ago, I took a class in which I was assigned to read this person’s book, “The Bluest Eye.” It was a very whiny, race-obsessed novel. Toni, or whatever her real name is, loves to wallow in the idea of helpless, innocent black folk, particularly women and children, being terrorized and victimized by racist white men. The stark realities of black-on-black crime and black-on-white crime don’t get in the way of her fantasies.
They have to cling to the “legacy” of slavery to explain their constant flops in life.
Miss Morrison needs to forget her apparent indoctrination into a racial or ethnic spin, adopted by Globalists after World War II, to break down a sense of community, nationhood, the importance of kith and kin, in an effort to steer a disrespected humanity towards some form of New World Order; where all heritages are effectively being trashed.
If Miss Morrison would look a bit closer, she would realize that those who endlessly patronize those embraced in the name of "diversity," have no actual respect for either those embraced or those with whom in any other era they would have clearly identified.
The idea that people are interchangeable; that there is somehow, some imagined evil involved, in trying to retain your cultural heritage as the proper bridge to a growing cultural future; is pure lunacy, which depends upon the idiocy of "political correctness," to sustain it. Those of us who actually respect the diverse peoples of the earth, want no part of it, neither the part that insults our own people, nor the part that insults foreign nations.
The fact that American Leftists have joined the least patriotic business interests in promoting a flood of disparate peoples, who have no interest in our cultural heritage, except to defy its laws, does not convince any of us to sabotage a heritage won through the struggle of six generations before the Revolution, and built upon by all the generations since.
The confused diatribe is only that, a confused diatribe. If the writer legitimately won the recited awards, she has fallen very far from her claimed potential.
The inferiority runs deep in this one; does she wonder why so many blacks and Hispanics either stayed home or actually voted for Trump?
There is no indication that this country twice elected a mulatto as president for eight years...
That’s right, and as long as they are held to lowered standards they’ll be griping about it in another thousand years...
“Barf alert” is simply not adequate warning for the bilious nonsense spewed by this deranged harpy.
