Enforce Existing Gun Laws Last Thing Rights Advocates Should Call For
Ammoland ^ | October 29, 2016 | David Codrea

Two recent advocacy pieces by Second Amendment stalwarts I support have contained a call to government action that actually works counter to our interests. It’s a call that many gun owner rights advocates have innocently repeated over the years, taking their lead from NRA. It’s a call we should soundly reject that says:

We don’t need new gun laws. Enforce the laws on the books.

The first part, true enough. The second part, let’s talk about…

We see it in a five point plan proposed by Rep. Dave Brat, the true conservative who ousted RINO Eric Cantor in Virginia (to the fury of Republican establishment elites), which starts out with four improvements...

Only enforce the constitutional laws already on the books - that will narrow it down a lot. Those who want to take our weapons need to barrage us with new laws in hope of getting a go-ahead to use force.

Was it Lincoln who said that the best way to get rid of bad laws is to enforce them strictly? Trump should start loading jails with gang members who got caught with guns. Double the sentences. Then we will see how much the Dems like gun laws.

You touched on something the establishment fears the most. If Trump actually fixes something they can no longer campaign on it. When its realized by the sheeple that the root of gun violence is the person and not the object the entire dynamic changes. Maybe freedom can be restored to the nation.

Fed gun laws are too many and too cumbersome, but some states are way past common sense and have the net effect of turning law abiding citizens into criminals at the stroke of a pen.

I’m in CA where 10+ round magazines were pretty much banned many years ago, but allowed existing owners to keep theirs. Come January, all 10+ mags will be banned with no grandfathering. I think I have a couple 15 round mags in my garage that I haven’t been able to find, so I assume I will be a criminal soon.

The cry to enforce the gun laws already on the books should have been more specifically stated as laws pertinent to criminal use of guns should be prosecuted to the maximum extent.

I could be wrong about this, but I believe it is the NRA that pushes the “Enforce the laws already on the books” narrative and it is quite flawed.

Life member here BTW, but I don’t always agree with the NRA.

There are no Constitutional laws on the books that infringe on the RKBA. It says "shall not be infringed." That is absolute. No law restricting that in any way is Constitutional even if it passes muster at the USSC. Concealed carry laws are unConstitutional as they restrict/infringe on the right to KBA. Laws preventing unincarcerated people of any sort are similarly unConstitutional. Laws preventing unincarcerated felons from owning or carrying arms are unConstitutional. Ant there is lots of et cetera. The only Constitutional restriction of RKBA is possibly the clause on involuntary servitude for incarcerated prisoners and maybe incarcerated lunatics.

—one of the consequences of this would be urban jails and prisons so overwhelmed with “Obama sons” , there wouldn’t be room for anyone else, which is probably politically impossible-—

Hence my reference that enforcing the constitutional laws on the books would narrow them down ..... I agree with you.
