Oh, I thought this was about junk email. The only thing I need to know about spam is it tastes terrible in my opinion.

Hawaii consumes more Spam than any state in our union — in total, 7 million cans a year. According to the SPAM website, the island's love affair with Spam began in World War II, when GIs were served the salty luncheon meat because it didn't require refrigeration and had a long shelf life.

This stuff is great. I buy an off brand for as little as $1.00 a can (CDN$). That's 75 cents US$ per can.

What other foodstuff keeps forever and comes with it's own opener? Slice off medium slices and fry it up for breakfast.

I know it used to be a cheap alternative meat. Now it’s a costly alternative meat.

Yum.

I think I’d rather have WHAM. It’s good enough for Cary Grant.

Thanks. Good article. Hubby and I lived in Hawaii for a few years and the Spam love-fest was interesting.

Growing up, we had Spam often and I liked it fried in a sandwich with mustard. We have some in the pantry now in case of emergency.
