Is Gun Confiscation Coming to Hawaii?

States are seen as the laboratories for democracy. They can be places to cite great public policy successes and highlight the many horrible failures. As more Democratic states adopt more anti-gun policies, there are fears that the groundwork for confiscation is being set. Of all places, you would think that California, or New York, would be the place that Second Amendment rights advocates fear would be the test area for such policies. Nope. It’s actually Hawaii. The Aloha State is the first in the country that requires its gun-owning residents to enter a federal database (via NRA Hunters):

Hawaii’s new law requires current and future gun owners to register in the FBI’s “Rap Back” system. The FBI calls it their Next Generation Identification Program, which is currently used to track the actions of people who are part of ongoing criminal investigations. If someone enrolled in the database has contact with law enforcement, an alert is issued through the FBI. Now the program will be used to track the actions of all law-abiding gun owners in Hawaii—and not just residents. SB 2954 requires law enforcement to request a “Rap Back” on anyone requesting a firearm license or registering a firearm. Translation: Hunters who intend to visit Hawaii to hunt will find themselves enrolled in an FBI database meant for criminals. Two other additions to the state’s gun control legislation are found in House Bill 2629. One prohibits anyone convicted of certain stalking offenses from owning firearms. The other requires law-abiding gun owners who have been diagnosed with “a significant behavioral, emotional or mental disorder, or due to emergency or involuntary admission to a psychiatric facility” to surrender their firearms and ammunition. If they do not comply, their local police chief can seize the guns and ammo.

Downright hostile to lawful gun owners.

And here's something I didn't know:

The NRA also adds that purchasing firearms in the state also require a permit from law enforcement, and now with the new law—your name gets added into a federal database.

You can't even BUY a gun without permission.

We here in Washington State are also seeing a slow, yet steady infringement on the 2nd Amendment.

The voters of Hawaii must not care.

They kept voting for Obama, and they will probably vote for Illiarily to get rid of their 2nd Amendment rights.

Some states steamroll our 2A rights and the only hope in those states is to look to SCOTUS for relief, which even th last court wasn’t real good at. And, if HRC is elected, we’re screwed. I’m in CA and hope a Trump SCOTUS could help greatly.

Bayrack was right; Elections do have consequences.

Well, once 0bama ‘retires’ and 0prah gives him her Hawaiian Hacienda as a Bon Voyage gift (and tax shelter!) and they crown him, ‘King Immortal’ guns will be 100% illegal!

0bama's CDC is also trying a backdoor method of turning firearms ownership into a National Health issue.

If firearms take as many lives, say as diabetes, shouldn't we "do something" to prevent that?

The Humphrey quote was just three and a half years before the LBJ/CIA/Mafia coup in Dallas (and the mass media cover-up which followed) showed that “arbitrary government” was here to stay.

They have been trying to obliterate the second amendment ever since.

WRONG! Current owners do not have to do any such thing. Future owners, maybe, if they ever get the thing in place.

Many, like me, will buy nothing until this thing goes through the courts.

There has been a lot of interest in 80% lowers lately, for some reason.

Humphrey was considered something of a right-winger in Minnesota. He was one of the people that persuaded the Minnesota Farmer-Labor Party to moderate and join with Democrats.

Minnesota Democrats are actually the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party ‘affiliated’ with the national Democrat Party.

These new gun laws in Hawaii were signed into law by Governor Inge on June 23, 2016.

You live there but the NRA article says the law applies to ALL gun owners.

If I'm misinterpreting the article I apologize.

I use the VA now for my healthcare...it satisfies 0bamacare for the meanwhile.

Last time in, Doctor asked if we had any guns in the house.

Nope! ;)

Secondly, Government should ONLY be doing what is outlined in our Constitution. No more, no less. But, what do I know? ;)

The voters of Hawaii don’t care about guns because it was never in their culture. The most populated island-Oahu has little to no hunting. A few people hunt pig, but that is it.
Crime in Hawaii is a lower level of violence than the mainland, so there is no pressing need to own a handgun.
Voters in Hawaii will vote Democrat, no matter what. It has nothing to do with liberalism or conservatism. It has to do with the history of the Democrat party during the plantation days , and lots of Union and gimme dat voters.

Hawaii’s new law requires current and future gun owners to register in the FBI’s “Rap Back” system.

This law is in direct violation of the US Constitution. The SCOTUS's decision in Haynes vs US (1968), as with many other 5th amendment cases, felons and others prohibited from possessing firearms could not be compelled to incriminate themselves through registration.

Just as we are a Post-Christian nation, it appears we are also a Post-Constitution nation.
