The implosion of the NeverTrump movement that came with Ted Cruzs public political suicide will have a very beneficial effect on Donald Trumps campaign to win the Presidency.
Hillary Clinton was once leading Trump by as much as 12 points.
That has fizzled down to a virtual tie in poll after poll and there are clear reasons why.
When Hillary was courting Bernie Sanders for his backing she was in the news; and that led to a 7 point Rasmussen lead for Trump because of the Morris rule.
The Dick Morris rule says Hillarys numbers go up when she is out of sight and down when she is before us. The Rule came into play when Hillary begged Sanders for support and gave Trump that lead. Then the Comey report crushed her, so the media allowed Hillary to go into hiding. That hunkering down lasted long enough to help her stay hidden right up to the Trump convention, thus the melting of Trumps lead.
Trump will not allow her to stay hidden and next weeks freak show/Democrat convention will put her back on the national stage. That will lower her numbers.
A fixable problem for Trump is the significant core of Republicans that have been withholding their support from Trump. That can be fixed.
The Cruz speech that all but destroyed the NeverTrump movement and galvanized the Republican base, seems to have changed the mind of many of the holdouts that have been hesitating to back Trump.
In a new American Research Group (ARG) poll Trump is down one point to Clinton but just 77% of Republicans are supporting him. Moreover, 7% say they will vote for Clinton who has 85% of her Partys support.
The room for growth of each candidate is not at all...

I have a feeling Ted has a very dark side. I fear for his kids.
Independents 51-33 Trump.
So Doble-Cruz helped Trump with his betrayal?
I don’t trust someone who wants power THAT MUCH. I love the narrative about Trump and the Oprah Winfrey interview from 1988 where he states that he would run if things got so bad.. And we are there.
Trump only has 77% of his base to 85% for Hitlary??? what the hell is wrong with them!!
That is work itself out now that Cruz and Trump has given them reasons to come home. Hillary doesn’t have much room to grow; Trump does.
Not surprising to me. Trump has made a calculated risk that a move to the middle on social issues will garner him more votes from independents than he will lose from social conservatives.
So the reliable conservative GOP base has shrunk and it's too soon to know if this gambit works.
Isn’t it amazing she always has to be up one point in a poll? Or God forbid, tied.
Just so they never have to write the headline Trump Leads.
What’s wrong with them? Ask Rush Limbaugh why his first call today was from a rabid Trump hating Cruz supporter.
On my facebook list, I have a lot of #nevertrumpers - they are too stupid to reason with.
All he managed to do was to alienate the rest of his supporters and set them solidly behind Trump. We haven't heard the last of his sour grapes because he's not smart enough or in control of himself enough to shut his lying pie hole...
There are always voters who will absolutely not compromise on one or more principles. Even if they agree with 99% of what a candidate stands for, if that remaining 1% is an issue they will not compromise on, that candidate won’t get their vote. There is no reasoning with them.
” We haven’t heard the last of his sour grapes because he’s not smart enough or in control of himself enough to shut his lying pie hole... “
He’s smart enough ... the man is far from stupid.
You hit the nail on the head with your other criticism though ... he’s not in control of himself. He let his massive ego get the best of him.
A reasonable person would be sitting on the sidelines taking a long hard look at themselves to ascertain what went wrong. An irrational person does what Ted does ... they seem to think that everyone *but* them is stupid and double down on irrational.
Sometimes one of many is correct and they work hard to prove that ... that is not the case with Cruz. Cruz came off as a person that felt that they were ‘entitled’ to be President given his brains ... Trump worked hard to prove he was the best person for the job. Again, if Cruz had any humility, he’d have never done what he did this past week. He’s dead to me and millions of others that were fooled by his slimy tactics.
Trump wasn’t “perfect” in handling Cruz, but he sure as hell didn’t sink to Cruz’s level of mudslinging.
Absolutely. Lots of those one-issue voters on this site.
Let's face it, when you think you are the Messiah chosen by God to rule the world, you don't take defeat well.
Cruz does not accept defeat. His posture toward Trump reflects the delusion that he can undermine Trump enough for a Clinton victory, then challenge Clinton in 2020.
I am on the plane flying home from Cleveland. Most everyone on the plane was at the convention. There’s a guy behind me who won’t stop talking and all he can talk about is Ted Cruz. It’s like.a flipping cult. He’s so obnoxious I want to punch him, but I can’t. I’m on a plane. :)
I hope you accidentally tripped him as he was getting off of the plane. ;)
