Big Oil Begins To Worry About Trump’s Wall
Oilprice.com ^ | 18-07-2016 | Wall of China

Donald Trump’s idea to build a wall along the southern border of the U.S. has been called everything from controversial to harebrained, but—to the likely dismay of some of the oil majors—it’s now officially part of the Republican Party’s platform.

As it turns out, the idea has been on the GOP table for a while, and Trump was just the man to voice it loudly and persistently enough. Trump’s wall is on the agenda, should he become president.

A wall stopping people and vehicles from illegally crossing into the U.S. may appear to be a simple and effective solution to illegal immigration, but it sure won’t sound so good to Marathon Oil, Anadarko Petroleum, Exxon, Chevron, Kinder Morgan and their peers. The reason: since Mexico liberalized its energy market back in 2014, it has become an attractive investment destination for U.S. energy companies.

I have absolutely no sympathy for the oil companies. If they have to adjust their forward plans, so be it. I am not going to sacrifice our national security for the sake of someone’s stock options. Cry somewhere else.

This article is just so full of nonsense.

The reason: since Mexico liberalized its energy market back in 2014, it has become an attractive investment destination for U.S. energy companies.

I would venture to say that their investments are safe and sound with a wall. If they are indeed relying on illegal border crossings, than they should lose, and big time. I for one do not believe that is the case.

Doesn't stop China, they have a wall; Doesn't stop Israel, they have a wall; doesn't stop Mexico, they have a wall on the Venezuelan side; so what's the problem with a wall and oil?

Oh I see, it ISN'T the OIL, they don't want their criminals back, and with a wall and them getting sent back, they will have to deal with their own cess pool in their own front yard....aaawwweee to bad for them/s ROFL...

Having been in a lawsuit with big oil, let me tell you how they work.

They pay their lawyers, and then they pay yours.

Is this author suggesting that the above companies are transporting crude oil and refined products illegally across the border? If not, then what is the problem with a wall? It will have a gate, won't it?

Nonsense. Why would a wall impede legal business?
You can always drill a hole for a pipeline or build a border crossing point for legitimate traffic, wherever it is needed.

Funny how NO other country with an enforced and secured border is called hairbrained or controversial...

We need interior enforcement to deal with the current invaders. Start the wall for the future illegal trespassers.

Oil price is the national enquirer of the oil business.

That is a serious insult to national enquirer.

And a wall or enforcing the border will do what to impede legal business?

I think the fear is that Mexico will lock U.S. companies out of investing in the Mexican oil market or providing product to Mexican consumers.

So if they are going to join with the Democrats to try to stop the wall then we are just going to have to join with the Democrats to raise their taxes.

No government in their right mind would continue doing business with someone who’s building walls along their common border.

That's the entire basis of the author's theory and it sounds like complete BS to me.
