LONDON — The cat can stay.

The only member of the household on Downing Street to be spared the indignity of one of the fastest political transitions in recent memory will be Larry the Cat, a tabby who holds the title of chief mouser to the cabinet office.

The sudden victory of Theresa May, Britain’s home secretary, in the Conservative Party’s leadership contest on Monday put Prime Minister David Cameron in the unenviable position of having to vacate his residence in about 48 hours. A large blue moving van pulled up on Downing Street on Tuesday to retrieve the Cameron family’s belongings.

Unlike George Osborne, who is warmer off camera than his stiff TV appear-ances suggest, Mr Cameron generally talks down to people he considers inferior. Which means almost all of us, except Barack Obama and the Queen.

He's the ultimate calculating careerist who seemed to believe in nothing – so it's fitting he was booed at his final public appearance as PM

I have a stupid question. If the UK voted for Brexit, how does a swarmy sort as May come to power? Isn’t the Conservative party hierarchy expecting pushback from the grassroots?

IMO the circus attempted now by the Brits is to project a charade of Brexit while clinging on to the EU as much as possible.

German leaders stepped up the pressure on Britain's incoming prime minister Theresa May on Tuesday, July 12 by demanding she swiftly spell out when she will launch divorce proceedings with the European Union

So...Larry the Cat gets to stay. That is good, as David Cameron dislikes cats.

Not surprised he’s no longer Prime Minister.

......put Prime Minister David Cameron in the unenviable position of having to vacate his residence in about 48 hours.

Would that it would be so quick getting Obama's a$$ out of the White House after November 8th. As it is he doesn't have to leave until January 20th. He's gonna be issuing a crapload of terrorist pardons, crazy Executive Orders, poison pills, edicts and other destructive stuff in those 2+ months.

Cats are apolitical and have only been known to vote when their owner is a democrat.

The point is that the Conservative party is divided on the issue. Many (probably the majority) backed the remain camp because they thought it was good for business. In fact it IS good for SOME businesses...if you run translation company's, law firms or "consultancies" (lobbyists) the EU is VERY good for business. But democracy is majority rule so it was pretty obvious a pro-remainer would get to be PM. Some Tories have resigned in disgust, but they must have calculated they could live with that.

No doubt there will be a general electoral backlash for the decision, especially if they are perceived to be dragging their feet on the Brexit process, but they could be in power for another four years and people have short memories and more immediate priorities. The leave campaign is popular but very diffuse. The only official political support is from UKIP, and UKIP is the youngest major political party and has by far the least experience and organisational support (and money). In short, there are Remain supporters who are hoping to spin this all out, covering their own shortcomings by blaming every disaster on Brexit, and hoping that people will have generally forgotten about it all by the next General Election.
