Its that time of year again graduation. And you all know what that means: Costco is once again stocking their key lime pie.
Now, if you dont live near a Costco or just want to make your own you can follow the instructions of Judge Alex Ferrer who showed Fox and Friends hosts yesterday how to make your own key lime pie without any key limes. Or any kind of limes for that matter. How does that work? Watch for yourself. Spoiler alert: even though it has no key limes, it self identifies as a key lime pie. Good enough in America these days.
Im not sure precisely where you draw the line on self-identification these days, butt apparently somewhere around ISIS (h/t Doug Ross): Liberals Demand We Accept Men Who Identify as Women, But They Refuse to Accept Terrorists Who Identify as Muslim.

The author is highly unfair here. Rush made this point in his opener yesterday. The “Mirror” author gives a “hat tip” to some third guy who FINALLY attributes this to Rush and provides a link to Rush’s web page.
It was an absolutely brilliant observation by Rush. (Did he originally think it up?)
Yes. You can use frozen lime juice concentrate and Eagle Brand and call it a key lime pie, but it is a lime pie, not a key lime pie.
LOL. The title should like an EU referendum.
Best key lime pie in the world...at a run down little roadside restaurant by a small marina, on the right heading toward Key West just before the 7 Mile bridge. If you like key lime pie...this is a must for your bucket list. (Wish I knew the name of the restaurant).
I think as long as it has 1/54th lime in it, it qualifies.
Sounds good. What else do they have there?
Now we know: at least as to Key lime pie — the state pie of Florida no less — Judge Ferrer is not an originalist or strict constuctionist.
Add 1/3 cup of lime juice to the judge’s recipe....viola! Really delicious!
Key limes are different from regular limes, by the way. I wouldn’t think of adding regular lime juice and calling it a Key lime pie! The heavens would open and my mother would chastise me sternly.
A world class grouper sandwich!
4 egg yolks
1 can (14 oz.) of sweetened condensed milk
1/2 cup of lime juice
Mix in blender and pour into a graham cracker pie shell. Then bake at 325F for 12 - 15 minutes. Let cool and refrigerate, serve cold.
HHUUHH !! True Key Lime Pie has to be made with key limes.
BTW, you see these little mesh bags in the grocery with ‘key limes’, little green bullets. ARGH !!
A real ripe key lime is a little smaller than a ping pong ball and is YELLOW.
They have a tartness not present in a Persian lime. Five true key limes is all you need for a pie.
They grow in extreme S Fla. and the Keys. You don’t even say the word ‘frost’ around them.
I make the imitation pie w/ Persian limes. I’ve use Meyer lemons, lemons/ with lime juice. They are all good but the real thing is my favorite pie.
Another deviation I use is a regular crust. I’m not big on Graham crackers and I think it makes the pie too sweet. Also use the egg whites for a meringue instead of whipped cream.
Got me drooling now. Fathers Day coming up, think I’ll make one.
Umm, a key lime is a particular variety of lime. Just like your persian lime is a particular variety of lime.
They are not the same.
You are not making key lime pie.
And most folks can’t tell the difference, so ultimately, only the purists care. I guess I am one, come to think of it, and I’d be happy to announce that we’re having persian lime pie for dessert - a conversation starter.
Weird because the video did not indicate that any sort of citrus was added—no lemon or lime.
I know the difference and have used both real key limes and persian limes. I use key limes when I can find them growing around the neighborhood, but I’ve found that persian limes come close to tasting like key limes when the whole lime is juiced including the rind - and that’s the key (pun intended). Besides, I live on Sand Key, so, as I say, I make Sand Key Lime Pie (wink wink).

Works for me :-)
Only made it as far as Marathon on my one trip (so far) to the Keys.
What time is dessert served?
I use a little Persian lime zest in the juice. Adds some zip to the pie. You're right it comes close to the real thing.
I’m very wary at ordering a Key Lime pie in a restaurant. 99% of the time it’s a disappointment.
First clue, if they’ve dyed it green avoid. A Key Lime pie is yellow.
When I lived in Miami I had a tree in my backyard. Never produced any limes.
Hurricane Cleo rolled through in ‘65(?) and blew it over at a 45º angle.
I propped it up, half its roots bare and wow, from then on it produced way more limes than we could ever use.
Ahhh, the good ol’ days. Would love to have 5 ripe key limes right now.
Thanks. I’ll have one of those too.
