Dear Web Designers Of major Websites; YOU SUCK!
b.b.e.b.

I just have to get this off my chest, websites in general have become incredibly annoying! Videos play that I don't want to watch, I start reading something and a pop comes up asking me sign up for an email I will never ever read, flash ads give me the dizzy;s, your bullshit plugins give me script errors and on average you leave 10-15 tracking cookies.

And you folks are surprised people are using ad blocker? If someone comes up with annoying blocker you are screwed! Concentrate on user experience and then revenue, I just flat out leave websites I would usually spend more time on but you literally chase me away or lock up my browser.

Whatever you do, don’t install Ad Block Plus, because then you won’t be able to whine anymore.

You do know the greatest minds of this millenial age have been co-opted to make ads work on websites? At least, that was the lament of some silicon valley douche that I read somewhere last year.

If a web page takes more than 10% of your CPU and more than 10MB of memory to run, it is taking too much.

I call many websites now “Java Junkyards.” Why was I able to get to the information on their sites without all the attached manure years ago. It’s not an improvement.

Even here. Someone posts an article and by the time I can actually read the article at the website I have lost interest. Not the posters fault of course.

Many now use HTML5 instead of Flash to display videos. There are apps you can load to disable unwanted videos.

I’m with you. Some sites I refuse to go to anymore. Waste my time.

I use ghostery.

And it’s not the designers, it’s their management.

Web ads have been destined to fail. As this becomes more obvious, the management gets more desperate.

Forbes and Wall Street Journal are the worst.

Now Forbes won’t let you on their site if you have an ad blocker. Which means Forbes gets no hits from me.

What I don’t get is what advertisers are stupid enough to pay to be on a site that nobody can or will view their ads? Either because the site will crash their browser or they have an ad blocker. Stupid.

“Some sites I refuse to go to anymore. Waste my time.”

Use the Brave browser; it blocks ads and its the only way I can visit some sites. (It’s by Brendan Eich, who got fired from Mozilla, which he helped develop, because he wouldn’t accept Big Brother’s imposition of same-sex marriage.

And as a postscript, I ABOMINATE sites which hit me with an audio message.

So I’m working at 5 AM in a totally quiet house, and then suddenly BAM! Would I like to buy the latest _____?

And I have to scramble to find the mute button.

When I was growing up, we had just the TV set and nobody ever heard of a thing called an Internet. I would sometimes watch programs on the TV with my father. Always with the commercials. I would would say to my father, "Father, why always with the commercials? Why don't they just play the program we want to watch?

And my father would say "Son, those commercials that you hate to sit through are the reason that shows exist for you to watch. See, the companies these commercials are for pay a lot of money to the TV station to show them. These companies do this because more people will then buy their products. Then the TV station pays some of that money from the advertisers back to the studios who produce those shows so that they can keep making more shows."

And I would say "Gee whiz Dad, I didn't know TV was that complicated. Well I sure am glad for commercials then because otherwise I would not get to see Lassie or The Beaver! I guess I can learn to like the commercials."

And I did learn to like the commercials. And when I grew up, I bought lots of stuff. Then I subscribed to Netflix and never saw another commercial again.

THE END
