Please Help. Valuable/Sentimental Painting Stolen (Trying to help someone out)

Hopefully I got this story straight.

An elderly gentleman in Nevada shipped a 20"x30" original painting to someone in Alaska. I believe he was passing it on to his daughter. The painting ended up being stolen. I'm not sure the circumstances and this is conjecture on my part, but I suspect the couriers dropped it off at the house and left it while no one was home. But whatever the case may be, it is deemed stolen.

The gentleman had called and informed the artist's publishing company to ask for any assistance in getting the word out. Knowing the artist and the people at the company, I'm doing my part to help and relay what I learned.

The artwork is a 20"x30" (image size) original painting by Roy Tabora, entitled "Night Glow." I don't know the value of the painting, but considering the artist and the size of the painting, it ain't cheap! It was painted back in 1992, and was special to the gentleman, because the artist wrote a dedication to the gentleman's wife. Thus, the loss of something sentimental is rather upsetting.

Here are the images I got off the Tabora Studio Facebook page. (Please note: Photobucket was acting up today, so I ended up using MediaFire for the first time. If the images end up disappearing for whatever reason, please go to the company's Facebook site to view.)

Anyhow, if anyone hears or sees anything regarding this painting, the gentleman asks to please contact the Alaska State Troopers in Fairbanks, 907-451-5100.

On behalf of the elderly gentleman in Nevada, thank you in advance for any help anyone can provide. Mahalo.

That’s sad it was stolen...I’ve had several items stolen through both the post office and being left outside the destination. We have allowed a culture to prosper...a sick culture of “I’m just goin’ take yo’ sh?t.” Good finding it.

I wouldn’t say this to the old gentleman who is saddened by this loss, but . . . .

The inscription on the back indicates a giclee’ which is a high quality print often on canvas and often coated with varnish to look exactly like an original.

I say this because the artist has listed a “Cat No.” meaning a catalogue number in the description and has not mentioned original artwork.

I have never seen an original painting referred to by catalogue number in its description.

It is personally inscribed and that may have some sentimental value to the old chap. Otherwise, meh.

Go look at this site. It is a registry of art loss sites on which the stolen painting can be added. Includes artloss.com and the FBI site.

Good luck

I would agree, and an excellent catch.

Actually, I know the artist personally. He does inscribe a catalog number on the back of his originals. It is a practice that was suggested by his mother, who had owned an art gallery in the Philippines, and is done as a means of historical record keeping. The company is very meticulous in cataloging the artist’s work.

Thanks, Gaffer. I’ll share this information with the company. They can assist from there!
