I agree. I’ll bet the current (secret) Rules of Engagement tell the skippers of those vessels NOT to defend themselves or retaliate.
The Cole was docked and the 15 captured were in a tiny vessel patrol type boat....all a far cry from attacking and sinking a U.S. Naval vessel....even a destroyer is a formidable weapon system and could be challenged by VERY few countries on Earth and Iran isn't one of them. Retaliation would be swift and overwhelming.
