Trump Kid Likens GOP Election Process to 'Communist China'
WeeklyStandard.com ^ | APR 20, 2016 | JIM SWIFT

After a big win in his home state of New York, three of Donald Trump's children joined Fox News's Sean Hannity for an interview. Donald Trump Junior went on a rant after being asked a question by Hannity on Team Trump's inability to secure delegates.

Hannity said, "What do you make of all the issues of the last two weeks about delegates? For example, in states like Georgia, South Carolina, places that were kinda long forgotten...."

"Yeah. Well, it's amazing," said Trump Jr. "When you let the voters vote, we do incredibly well, you know? But when you try and suppress that, it's a different system. That system makes sense 200 years ago, Sean. 150 years ago, when people lived on a farm. They didn't have the Library of Congress in their fingertips on their iPhones. They didn't have access to information. It no longer does. We have to let the American people decide. I mean, it's actually a joke. I feel like I'm in Communist China sometimes watching this stuff. You know, it's crazy. When the American people get to vote, we win!"

Donald Trump Jr. seems to support populism, something the founders warned us about and constructed a system to prevent.

Ted Cruz would condemn Communist China and Iran for selecting an approved list of candidates ahead of time. But in the US, he calls it “following the rules”.

A very deceptive headline, but, it is the Weekly Standard.

“Donald Trump Jr. seems to support populism, something the founders warned us about and constructed a system to prevent.”

As opposed to what we have now, which has virtually destroyed the nation.

Snark aside, his point stands: where the PEOPLE vote, Trump wins. By millions. Spin it however you like, most of us on this board know a con when we see it. The standard tactic of a con job is to create shame in those who see through it, shame for being so mean, judgmental and distrustful...to make one second guess accurate first instincts.

When I listened to Cruz himself discuss this issue with Hannity, he lost me. No more good faith, he’s drunk with ambition and cynically pretends we don’t care about his methods.

I personally find it impressive that Cruz could:

1. At the age of 8 or 10 (or even before his birth in some instances) change the rules of state conventions to his advantage in 2016. That’s some foresight.

2. Trick Trump into not competing in fly-over states and into have a shoddy grassroots-level organization. That’s power.

/sarcasm for the Trumpinistas.

Yeah, voting is so evil.

You and a few others here on the forum are the first people in my lifetime that I have seen who claim to be Conservative, and hate it when the public votes.

What the hell is wrong with you?

Did you fall and hit your head?

DTT, Jr.’s comment is unnecessary and not helpful and reflects a lack of understanding of federalism.

Analysis of a successful business executive of a $10 billion company and entrepreneur from a former “tax staffer”:

Jim Swift is deputy online editor of The Weekly Standard. He previously worked for members of the House and Senate as a tax staffer. Swift holds a BSBA from Saint Louis University.

And it’s the “Weakly Standard”, you know.

Now, if you could just get the American public behind you.

You see, most of us see Ted when we look at that.

What Cruz realizes and what Trump ignores is that we are a Federal Republic. People who favor are responding to his celebrity and not even a majority.NY is the first state in which he has won a majority. The basic problem is that there is no reason to believe that a minority faction of Republicans can be expanded to a winning plurality of eligible voters in November. Right now it seems that Hilary is as likely to win over the independents as Trump is. If Trump does win at the convention, this is likely to be his high tide in popularity. Only events can save Trump from defeat. At least he does have an indictment hanging over his head. The sad truth is, however, that many of her supporters really would vote for her if she were caught in the street standing over a dead body with a smoking gun in her hand. Not because she is popular but because she is a Democrat.

You DO realize that we vote for representatives all the time. In fact that is how we elect our umm, REPRESENTATIVES to Congress. You attempt to use the logical fallacy of a straw man to try and assert that I and other hate it when the public votes. You can’t be more wrong. I love it when the public votes. As precinct captain I worked hard to get people to the caucus TO ELECT THEIR PRECINCT DELEGATE (representative).

When the nation and Constitution was first established, the citizens voted for their state representatives and in turn, those representatives elected our national Senators.

What the hell is wrong with me? Better question, what the hell is wrong with you? Why do you want to allow the populace, democrat. welfare values to run this nation? Because that is what you are going to get if you take out the representatives. Our nation is a Republic - NOT a democracy. Perhaps you should learn not only the difference but why it matters.

Let me ask you this. Do you support or oppose the electoral college and why?
