Ok folks we have been talking about a lot of things, food, long & short term food preps, comm., & a lot of other subjects. Well now, we're gonna talk about some topics that may be a little harder to deal with. We're looking at ourselves & our values [both good & bad].
We know nothing lasts forever, parts break, wear out, get stolen by others, traded off for other items, ect.. [Now we are looking at a worse case theory here.] 1] How do you define theft/looting, from salvaging/scavenging? 2] When does it become permissible to threaten deadly force a) and if you do have to use it how do you deal with the aftermath? [Those who have had to use deadly force in the past, I am really wanting you folks to speak up about the aftermath] 3] Have you laid in plans for religion into your preps?
And as always thank you for reading & responding to this. I really do look forward to reading your responses.
My definition
1. Looting/theft is where the grid is still up and people are getting their ‘toys’ or what they think is owed to them. municipal services are still functional
2. scavenging and salvage - the grid is down and will likely be down for a long time, and all levels of govt are unable to maintain any order or even maintain the essential. This becomes a life or death action
Thank you for posting this.
Are you pinging the list when you post these?
No, I’m not. I really suck at managing ping lists. so I do it this way.
I used a shotgun to stop an invasion of a hotel room that our family was in in the mid 1980’s in St. Louis before widespread CCW.
Just the sound of an 870 slide sound loading a round was enough as they broke the door lock. . They said don’t shoot, we be leavin. We be leavin. I could have shot, but why? Common sense enters the equation too. It was a judgment call.
The shotgun had 6 rounds of 00. If they had continued in, it would have been lots of clean up for the hotel.
It probably would have different in a shtf situation.

The first time I pulled a shotgun on someone was in similar circumstances. That noise tends to sober people up...solid reassuring sound...to the guy holding it. Not so much for the guy on the wrong end. In my case, it was three guys, two on foot one on a beautiful custom hog, a really nice old knuck. When I had them owned, the guy on the scooter says to me...”let me get my bike out of the way.” I almost laughed out loud. I told him why didn’t he take his asshole buddies with him and they took off. It was in a courtyard and I knew there was a chance of hitting someone or something I didn’t want to but..I swear..the guy mostly got out of there because he loved hiss bike so much.
We shoot looters whether the grid is up or down.

What do you mean mostly got out of there? Did he leave body parts or MC parts behind?
I kinda like the quiet little “snick” of the safety button on my M2 semi-auto.
It can hold 7+1.
What’s a good mix of shot sizes in those 8 shells?
How about a slug at the end?
The grid goes down then all rules are off except protect your family. If you have good neighbors then so much the better.

Hahahaha...sorry...no I guess I should have written Mostly, he got out of there because...they screwed faster than I thought they could. He was pushing for all he was worth.
That’s why I keep missing them. :) Same bat time, same bat channel every week?
Weekly Prepper Thread - Pinging the list
For the most part.
Thanks for posting!
I had a old Army Sargent tell me that it was not theft till they are shooting at you.
I’ve alternated 00 buck / #2 goose shot. MBerg 3 1/2 Ultra mag. The shells look like lil road flares. lol
