Over the course of five weeks, Working America, the non-union affiliate of the AFL-CIO labor federation, did extensive canvassing in union-dense, blue-collar areas of Pittsburgh and Cleveland. They called it a front porch focus group. The idea was simply to listen to let likely 2016 voters sound off about their thoughts and concerns headed into the presidential election.
What they discovered, among other things, was a lot of support for Donald Trump, the GOP front-runner. For months, this enthusiastic backing of the obnoxious billionaire had generally baffled the chattering class not to mention the GOP and Democratic establishment. But to Working America canvassers, it made plenty of sense.
We hear the same refrains all the time, said Karen Nussbaum, executive director of Working America, which has high membership in the Rust Belt. That people are fed up and theyre hurting. That their families have not recovered from the recession. That every family is harboring someone still not back at work. That someone is paying rent for their brother-in-law.

GOOD.
Good!
Maybe it’s just the Dems switching to confuse things (ala Operation Chaos) that makes it looks like their boys are walking out. Then again, maybe it’s just a bunch of thugs doing their duty to get Hillary the opposition she perceives as the weakest.
As someone who got hit badly by the Carter Admin recession, Trump’s message of Jobs for Americans is very powerful in the Rust Belt.
I remember construction managers out digging ditches to make ends meet.
Unions have done more to disrupt America, the economy, job growth, and workplace freedom than anyone in history. Their main tasks (workplace safety and fair wages) are now taken care of by US laws and armies of attorneys happy to file workplace lawsuits. The unions need to die the death that they have earned.
Hey, pollsters, I’m a retired former member of the AFL-CIO. I was a member of the union till I retired. I’m sympathetic to their goals of making a better life for their members but don’t agree that Bernie Sanders with his version of higher taxes on productive workers and savers will help their union members, only the freeloaders in society. On April 26 I plan to vote in the Pennsylvania Republican primary for Donald J. Trump. I’ve voted the Republican ticket for decades and have for a decade been calling myself an Independent. I’m registered as a Republican and finally am proud to say it, since Mr. Trump is running.
I’ve thought from the get-go that Republicans and Democrats alike were grossly underestimating his cross-party appeal and ability to garner the votes of blue-collar Democrats, i.e., those who haven’t yet realized they have nothing in common with the Democratic Party (or the GOPe, for that matter).
How many times can the word GOOD be posted on this thread ?
And they voted for Trump, regardless of what Kasich says.
No. Trump can’t win, remember? He turns off too many people, remember?
He has “high negatives,” remember?
My friend, please share that with your fellow AFL/CIO members to spread around. It needs to be oft repeated.
No bag limit on good.
At least one more time. Good ;)
The unionized workers are liking Trump better than they are liking their unions.
Bad news if you’re a union boss. Good news if you’re Donald.
A lot of applecarts look like they are going to get pushed at hard, if not overturned. Whatever we think of this Trump phenomenon, it looks like it is poised to change the face of America.
Labor Unions, Civil Rights Leader and “conservative” Media all serve the same fucntion.
They get a bunch of money frpm the politcal class to make sure certain groups of voters stay on this or that political party plantation
Or perhaps Labor Unions realize Free Managed Trade, endless wars, an unchecked illegal immigration is destroying their communities, their middle class life style and their kids futures.
They organize you, they claim they’re going to help you, they might even do so a few times, but ultimately they milk you like a cow and leave you out to pasture. These union-boss saviors always, always overplay their hands sooner or later. That’s because no mortal can be a savior; only God can.
This also goes for the Trump situation. Will he respect the mission of the church. He’s talking like he will and I believe it likely that he will. A lot depends on whether he actually does.
