In accepting campaign cash, Cruz is “just like everybody else” which is exactly the problem

Ted Cruz may be “just following the rules the same as everybody else” but that is just the problem: Ted Cruz is following the rules the same as everybody else.

There is a simple reason why people give politicians money: They want something in return. Whatever the particular need is, the money flows. Those who show up in Washington and make it clear that they won’t “play ball” are ignored when looking for donations.

An implied deal is made with every check that changes hands.

Cruz has a carefully cultivated image of being that rare person who is a member of Congress and an outsider. This begs the question: Is Cruz really seen as an outsider to those who stuff money in his pockets?

An examination of Cruz’s reported campaign donations finds that his name is listed along with some of the most loathsome people in both parties. It shows they all eat from the same trough.

Goldman Sachs, the company his wife works for, which is the quintessential “Wolf of Wall Street” and an ATM for Democrats, gave Cruz $69,350. They also gave at least $10,000 to both Nancy Pelosi and Steve Israel. They don’t donate to those they don’t see as team players.

The pro-amnesty Club For Growth gave Cruz $705,000 and spent another $1 million independently in Iowa to support amnesty.

Warren Buffett, a strong financial backer of amnesty, has given Cruz $27,750 and Ready for Hillary $25,000.

The Koch brothers, who are strong financial backers of amnesty, gave Cruz 23,750.

Steny Hoyer, Mitch McConnell and Harry Reid are also on that list.

The Houston Texans gave Cruz $15,000 and gave Karl Rove’s American Crossroads $500,000.

Gibson, Dunn gave Cruz $21,950 and donated to Gay Lesbian Victory Fund...

There is a simple reason why people give politicians money: They want something in return.

And there is a simple reason why they take it: without a lot of cash, you can't run a campaign. Should the solution be that only self-funded billionaires can run for office?

If I give money to a politician, it is due to I want him or her to be elected.

Only billionaires should be allowed to run for office. Only billionaires can connect with the middle class and the downtrodden. Only billionaires know what is best for the rest of us. Only billionaires are destined to go to heaven.

I like the fact that he is doing everything he can to engage me in the process.

I don't consider them spam at all!

You don’t give money to a politician who is going to fight you and your wishes.

So your solution is to only elect billionaires who can fund their own campaigns?

Gee you’re right we should not vote for Ted as he’s like the rest. Let’s atop sending $ and tell him to go it alone and win on his own. Ever think those donors hay think he has a shot and want some protection? Wanna start doubting his integrity now? Anyone else out there better then ted pass the purity test?

Exactly. I’ve given money to the Cruz campaign. Why? Because I want him as our next President.

Excellent point. If this theory made any sense the people would just offer all presidents, senators and congressmen positions to the richest people who wanted it -— a really fast road to serfdom.
Oh wait, never mind. This is part of Trump’s elect me pitch, as if he would not sweeten his honeypot for himself.

"The pro-amnesty Club For Growth gave Cruz $705,000 and spent another $1 million independently in Iowa to support amnesty. "

I hope the other candidates continuously force Cruz to state he will never sign any bill that grants legal status to any who are here illegally.

I know he has recently said that.

He should be forced to say it very publicly, often.

Because the people who are funding him expect amnesty.

Individual donations are chump change in a Federal race. The big money is in the PACs.

As someone who has personally run a campaign, I can tell you it takes a lot of cash to win. Yes, there is the rare occasional candidate who wins despite low funding -— but that is the exception rather than the rule.

Newspapers, radio, and TV do NOT give their ads away free. Even internet ads cost more than you might think. Most people don’t have the money to self-fund. That is the reality.

Do I think Ted Cruz is going to take their money and then feel so beholden to the donors that he changes his core values and positions -— emphatically NO!!! Ted has run more than one campaign, and remained true to his values. He has done what he promised, despite the donors he may have had along the way. He has proven himself over and over again, and I personally do not expect this to change.

If we don’t want Cruz (or the candidate of our choice) to take PAC money, we need to each and every one take out our wallets and pony up the $5,400 to the Cruz Campaign -— $2,700 for the primary, and another $2,700 for the general election. Someone has to fund the candidates we want to elect -— and if it’s not us, then we have no right to complain about them holding their hand out on the “street corner”.

The author of this piece has outed themselves as an establishment supporter. I have never ever read such twisted sense of logic in my life.

“””””You took donations from questionable people, thus you are a liar about being an outsider.”””””

Talk about an asinine way of thinking.

I used to like reading Coach is Right articles, but as of late I find they make less sense than putting Tabasco sauce on my ice-cream.

They very likely are not coming from Cruz himself- probably spam from sites like breitbart or some others- I get the official cruz newsletter in my email and have never received any emails begging for money- I believe the spam deal is an attempt by hackers o n the left to make cruz look like a jerk- I could be wrong- but I’ve seen a number of people who belong to sites like brietbart complaining of spam emails- and if anyone would be getting spam from Ted it would be those who get the official newsletter- but we’re not- at least I’m not

Agreed! I gave/give money to his campaign and I, too, want something in return - a return to a government that governs according to the authorities and limitations set forth in the Constitution. And of all the candidates, I see Ted Cruz as the best hope for achieving that objective.

As to whether or not he’s seen as an outsider, I would have to say that being called a “pain in the ass” or a “disruptive influence” by the always genteel Washington insiders would be a very good indication of how he’s perceived...
