There’s a Way to Stop Mass Shootings, and You Won’t Like It.
Thats right. Youre not going to like it because its going to require you to do something personally, as opposed to shouting for the government, or anyone to do something!
You ready? Here it is:
Notice those around you who seem isolated, and engage them.
If every one of us did this wed have a culture that was deeply committed to ensuring no one was left lonely. And make no mistake, as I’ve written before loneliness is what causes these shooters to lash out. People with solid connections to other people dont indiscriminately fire guns at strangers.
I know what youre thinking. Thats never going to work because no one is going to make the effort to connect with the strange kid sitting by himself at lunch each day. No one is going to reach out to the gawky, awkward guy at work and ask him about his weekend.
Youre probably right and thats an absolute shame.
Because I can tell you the things that arent going to work in this country when it comes to stopping these heinous acts. But they seem to be all anyone says, when inevitably, another person comes forward to inflict their tortured pain on innocent people.View Post
If you cant tell by this point in the list, there is NOTHING the government or any other organization can do to prevent these events.
You cant effectively keep drugs out of the hands of those intent on doing drugs. You cant keep beer out of the hands of high schoolers intent on getting beer. You have a HUGE supply of weapons everywhere and concrete federal law protecting those weapons. Youd have as much luck passing regulation against tornadoes. It would be equally as effective.
So there it is. The gods honest truth. No entity can do anything meaningful (more than is presently being done) to thwart a disaffected person hell-bent on committing such an act.
But you can.
You can talk to your co-worker for a few minutes. You can talk to the kid in your Physics class that appears to be all alone. You can teach your children to do the same, to make sure no one is left to feel totally isolated. Because thats the breeding ground. Thats where the seeds are planted.
Community is easy to take for granted. Most of us have strong family connections and healthy friendships. Most feel as though theyre part of a group, be it community, religious, or work related. But its increasingly easy for people on the edges to withdraw and its easy for us to forget them.
No, its comfortable to forget them. Its preferred to forget them. Its highly desired to forget them. And we have to change that.
Holding a sign isnt going to do anything. And writing your congressman will do even less. But you can do something today, this week, this month. The people you engage may not become life-long friends, and they dont need to be, but it could be enough to keep someone away from the darkness and isolation needed to eventually think lashing out is an effective strategy for dealing with their pain.
If you’re conflicted at all about the subject, I can’t encourage you enough to read this post by Sam Harris on the subject immediately following Newtown, CT, that I’ve written about before.
* Edit: Fully auto weapons are legal, but only under the strictest of conditions and at a price that makes them nigh affordable for the vast majority. For all intents and purposes, let’s just call them banned. The AR-15 is not a fully auto weapon, but is confused for one based on appearance.
PING!
Yea, banning all guns ... tell that to Obama’s sons and other criminals.
Bump
I would rather deny them the ability to breath.
(to not too)
Because if girls and young women were to try to "engage" them, they would be risking being harassed and stalked.
Regards,
Sorry Rob, but I don't think that would help anyone whatsoever as far as I am concerned. My wife is the only one I am ever around. Can I have a rim-shot?
It may help a few people.
But it wont stop it. There aill always be people who hole themselves up and finally crack.
Further, muslims have major family connections and close relationships and they suicide bomb and do mass shootings and are more than happy to murder infidels.
So this kinda isnt a viable solution.
Befriend a mass murderer. I’ll buy that advice for a dollar.
“Yea, banning all guns ... tell that to Obamas sons and other criminals.”
That’s why he said in the article that it wouldn’t. Reading is fundamental.
Isolation is a symptom of these shooters not the cause. Plenty of decent folks want to be isolated and left alone; it’s their right. Liberalism’s fatal ideology is the root cause for all of these mass shootings. Every common symptom of these shooters can be traced back to liberal meddling — every one of them! Laxed security, psychotropic drug use, twisted logic, education, PC BS, entitlement, bigotry, absence of faith and morality, low self-esteem, and on and on. The reason these shooters slip past so many people for so many years, despite clear early warnings, is that Liberalism enables them every step of the way!
And have you ever heard of emphasizing an imperative? Comprehension is fundamental.
[[Notice those around you who seem isolated, and engage them.]]
mmmm yes, that’;s exactly what the marine sniper did with a fella who ended killing him and another marine at a shooting range-
LOL!
He specifically said a gun ban wouldn’t work. You didn’t read, you just saw bullet points and assumed they were proposals.
Strengthen families and put Jesus back in public life.
Encourage mothers to raise their own kids from birth to 6-years old.
How about we just lock crazies up?
Next thing they are telling me about chem trails and how they tried vegan because all animals have souls except that he's an atheist, and you can list 21 criminal acts by Hillary but that's just Republican envy, so...
I've been hanging over at Quora, poking sticks between the bars, lately, and we are dealing with pallet quantities of stupid, there.
You see? There are mass shootings that should be reconsidered in light of who's getting shot.
