Bart Simpson will be killed off in 'The Simpsons'.

The cartoon schoolboy is set to fall victim to a diabolical plan by arch rival Sideshow Bob in an upcoming episode, which will be broadcast in the autumn.

The show's executive producer Al Jean revealed the news during an ATX Festival panel in Texas, where he admitted he was inspired to air the dramatic scenes because he felt "frustration" when the Coyote never killed the Road Runner in the animated children's show 'Looney Tunes'.

The Simpsons.

I don’t watch it. But I like it. As far as I’m concerned, this is a series that has never jumped the shark.

Maybe an episode or two is lame. Happens. But over all - there is a reason this has been on the air for a quarter of a century.

"Shrewd PR scam?"

More like a JR (Ewing) scam.

Isn’t Bart about 30 years old by now, still living at home and hasn’t graduated from grade school? I guess that makes him a pretty typical millennial.

No, bad headline writers. It’s the Halloween episode. Almost everybody dies in almost every Halloween episode, they aren’t “canon” (in as much as any Simpsons episode is canon). The big thing in this one is they’re finally going to let Sideshow Bob (who’s been trying to kill Bart for 20 years) finally win one, just not in the “real” story.

I see to recall he’s been killed off before in a Halloween episode so he could become a ghost.

I am of the opinion that they could create a show around Bart going to college.

What? He was frustrated because the Coyote never killed the Roadrunner? What’s the matter with him?

Same here, if I were a TV watcher it would be one of the shows that I would watch, but I would prefer that it not even be on TV, coarsening of the culture and all that.
