GWRAPS was coined by Sgt. Don Gulla of King Co. Deputy Sheriffs Dept of WA as Gulla Weapon Retention and Positional Shooting. This method is also called brace contact in certain tactical groups. The original concept is still hazy but was originally dubbed by the British SAS.
The point of this technique was that it was a last desperate technique when someone else has a hand on your pistol. Using this method gives you more leverage to regain the weapon possession by fighting or shooting. See the rest of this GWRAPS story here.

Strange. I figured holding onto the slide like that would tear your hand up when it’s fired. Guess not.
The technique is very interesting but I would think a ported semi or a revolver would get your hand torn up
