Brian Williams Still Has a Lot of Questions To Answer About His Iraq Helicopter Story
Slate ^ | February 4, 2015 | Ben Mathis-Lilley

Update, 11 p.m.: Brian Williams apologized on-air tonight for claiming that he was in a helicopter hit by an RPG in Iraq, but the version of events he gives in his apology is vague in a way that avoids addressing the main accusation of the soldiers quoted in Stars and Stripes questioning his accounts of events. Those soldiers, in Stars and Stripes' telling, say that not only was Williams not in a helicopter that was hit by an RPG, but that he was nowhere near the helicopters that were actually fired upon.

Said Williams tonight: "I made a mistake in recalling the events of 12 years ago….I want to apologize. I said I was traveling in an aircraft that was hit by RPG fire. I was instead in a following aircraft. We all landed after the ground fire incident." Williams' apology is reminiscent of his original reporting on the incident in 2003, which the Washington Post's Erik Wemple has located and posted. Stars and Stripes wrote today that Williams—post-apology—still believes that this initial account is accurate.

In the initial account (given on both the Nightly News and a Dateline episode on March 26, 2003), Williams clearly states that he was part of a group of helicopters that was fired upon while performing a mission:.....

"The Hill": NBC's Brian Williams admits his repeated Iraq story was not true "Brian Williams of NBC News on Wednesday admitted he was not aboard a helicopter that was shot down by a rocket-propelled grenade in Iraq in 2003, a claim he and the network have made several times in recent years.

The confession came the day after Williams aired a tribute he had planned at a New York Rangers hockey game for one of the soldiers who provided security for the helicopters when they were on the ground.".....

There’s probably a lot more to this story here. It is likely that since he claimed his crew was with them in this fictional 2003 account, one or more of them let the truth out quietly among friends and co-workers. It’s a good bet that NBC management has known its falsity for a decade.

Why do this? Because he(and his organization) can control the news, and whatever competitor might find out about and keep his/her mouth shut for the good of this “honorable profession”. Just like they did with knowledge of John Edwards’ baby mama drama, just like with Clinton and scores of others.

To quote Hillary:

“What difference, at this point, does it make!!?

It will be interesting to see if the MSM feels the same way.

Williams wasn’t alone. The stench from the news crew that was with him is overwhelming.

Hillary of course is an expert at mythically being fired upon.

The media seems to always exaggerate their danger in any war they cover. I never saw one news type in Vietnam.

"Clinton says she 'misspoke' about sniper fire"

Thanks for the link and the reminder about Hillary coming "under fire."

The Left loves to pull this phony association with the military, when in fact they hate it - but they lie. Always they lie.

-----

".......If you were active in the so-called "peace" movement or in the radical wing of the civil rights causes, why would you tell the truth? Why would you tell people that no, you weren't really a "peace activist," except in the sense that you were against America's war. Why would you draw attention to the fact that while you called yourselves "peace activists," you didn't oppose the Communists' war, and were gratified when America's enemies won?

What you were really against was not war at all, but American "imperialism" and American capitalism. What you truly hated was America's democracy, which you knew to be a "sham" because it was controlled by money in the end. That's why you wanted to "Bring the Troops Home," as your slogan said. Because if America's troops came home, America would lose and the Communists would win. And the progressive future would be one step closer.

But you never had the honesty—then or now—to admit that. You told the lie then to maintain your influence and increase your power to do good (as only the Chosen can). And you keep on telling the lie for the same reason.

Why would you admit that, despite your tactical support for civil rights, you weren't really committed to civil rights as Americans understand rights? What you really wanted was to overthrow the very Constitution that guaranteed those rights, based as it is on private property and the individual—both of which you despise.

It is because America is a democracy and the people endorse it, that the left's anti-American, but "progressive" agendas can only be achieved by deceiving the people. This is the cross the left has to bear: The better world is only achievable by lying to the very people they propose to redeem."........... [[[[[NBC also broadcast a segment on March 26, 2003 titled “Target Iraq: Helicopter NBC’s Brian Williams Was Riding In Comes Under Fire.”

No footage of that segment has yet surfaced, but three soldiers interviewed by Stars and Stripes say they watched it and recall that it involved the false claim that Williams’ helicopter had come under fire]]]]]

I think this might be it...

“I made a LIED in recalling the events of 12 years ago...”

This is what news does - it’s all about bringing a story forward and saying they are like the rest of us while all along trying to be nothing like us...fraud and deceit is their cup of tea and they serve it all the time...untrustworthy bastards - all of them!

I’d tend to agree. If a guy was in a chopper that’d been hit...it’d likely be one of the top ten events of his life. Just makes you wonder about the rest of his resume, and his nightly ‘acting’ job.

Yep. I recall Geraldo several years ago in Iraq or Afg. with his film crew. They heard shots being fired (far away) and Geraldo began screaming like a little girl to “get down”, as though they were the targets. What an ass!

The current Secretary of State was to say the least stretching things in terms of his military career as well. Christmas 68 in Cambodia under evil President Nixon and all those purple hearts medals he threw away. :)
