Will School Lunches Destroy Progressivism?

Students across the United States are getting a taste of progressivism. And it doesn’t seem to please their palates. The implementation of Michelle Obama’s anti-obesity lunch standards is encountering backlash from students and school administrators across the country. The program seems to have taught them a valuable lesson in the realities of progressivism -- that when American voters give up power to busy-body progressives, the result is more control over their lives and the loss of individual liberties. They responded to this newfound reality with boycotts, social media angst, and filled trash cans instead of filled bellies.

According to the Government Accountability Office (GAO), the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act has led to 1M children leaving the lunch line. Additionally, 48 out of 50 states are having a hard time complying with the new standards. Sodium limits, portion requirements, and calorie ranges for each group are leaving schools struggling to serve food that is edible and nourishing. The program faces many challenges, and despite its seemingly good intentions, the new standards are leaving a bad taste in the mouths of students, parents and school administrators.

Meanwhile, at the Obama's daughter's Sidwell-Friends School:

But I'm sure Michelle gets up early and makes/packs lunch for the girls.

She might do that (since she drove the White House chef out with her constant pick, pick, pick, leavened with plenty of snide remarks).

Only God can destroy progressivism. Even when it destroys itself, progressivism keeps on going.

The road to H#ll is also paved with good intentions.

These ‘progressives’ have always been the nosy neighbor who knows much better than you on how to raise your kids, spend your money and live your life. These things never seem to change and now they are running the country...

Moochelle is getting kids to lose weight by making food so unpalatable that the kids throw it away rather than eat it.

Must be something built-in that won’t won’t allow her to just mind her own business.

Reagan tried to get some control over the school lunch program and the Dems had a FIELD DAY with him.

...now the shoe’s on the other foot. And maybe Michelle will just do what Reagan only was able to dream of doing (i.e., get the government out of the food service business).

IN a way, it’s amusing to watch the latest generation of selfish brats meltdown like they do. Everyone can have a presence on the Internet, which seemingly promotes selfishness, self-adoration, and materialism, three things that are inherently anathema to socialism. There may be hope yet.

I teach high school kids. Kids hate the lunches.
This is my go to example of liberalism, its based on the idea that you are too stupid to make your own decisions.

“Must be something built-in that won’t won’t allow her to just mind her own business.”

I noticed in the work environment that the most unqualified people fought the hardest to be put in charge. I suspect that, having no control over their own lives, if they’re the boss they think they’ll gain that control. But it’s never the case and promoting these management illiterates creates chaos. Michelle is one such person; utterly incompetent yet in a position, apparently, where she can enforce her will on a whole sector of society. Even if they started dying as a direct result, she’d only do what she was already doing only harder.

The ONLY way to destroy progressivism is to end the Federal Reserve and return sound money

Progressivism’s foundation is the government’s ability to print money and issue debt for any social engineering scheme it deems politically important. As we see now, it manipulates interest rates for political purposes. I can inflate way debt, at the expense of workers and savers (ie. the producers) for its purposes.

With other legal tender besides the greenback, it provides an automatic check on government’s ability to spend.

Based on prior experience in Russia, the answer is....yes, it will.

In about 70 years.

No.

You may be right but between Moochies lunch program and Hussein's obamascare, the sheeple are getting hit both in the pocketbook and the stomach.

And they don’t give a damn.

They’re too busy watching football and Kim Kardashian’s ass - and now oral sex on HBO - to care.

Then they just stop by 7-Eleven on the way home and consume 3 large bags of Doritos. That's Progressive Progress!

Perhaps.

But, there needs to be a definitive connection between progressivism and the school lunch tray. In other words, someone has to get that message across by pointing out how the two are connected.

Articles and comments in conservative magazines and forums are not enough.

The reason the lunch trays have lost content and calories is because there was a national spokesperson who is also the current First Lady and the compliant media raving at the good intentions of said First Lady.

That school lunch garbage cans are being filled with the contents from trays students refuse to eat is an unintended consequence. But, from the Liberal/progressive view, it is good intentions, not unintended results, that are important. Those progressives still claim they can train students, eventually.

Who, nationally, is speaking out to support students who are demanding better meals?

Not by a long shot! The really stupid Grubers cannot draw a parallel between the government telling you what to eat, where to sit on a bus, or what to think! Now they're paying triple for FREE healthcare and loving it!

If Marie Antoinette Obama (let the poor eat Couscous Salad) wanted to have a positive impact on nutrition she should be pushing that food stamps can only be used to buy healthy foods just like the WIC program. I am tired of seeing people at the grocery store buying steaks, crab legs, bottled water, chips, soda and every manner of junk food and using their EBT card. I am especially galled when I see people in the wine and spirits section of my local grocery paying $10 in cash for a bottle of cheap whiskey and then use their EBT card for a 99 cent bottle of soda as a mixer.
