Yeah, but in those 3 to 5 minutes there was a high probability that something could have gone tragically wrong.

I just hope the decoy is heavy enough so you can at least use like a club to beat some fool to death.

Makes as much sense as a codpiece. Wishful thinking.

A fake gun would be useful in some circumstances,

You could use it as a club or even throw it.......

This has to be one of the definitions of insanity.

I had a personal incident with a road rager who was trying to force me off the road. Maniac.
Dispatch told me to pull over and wait for the police, and I informed dispatch
that should the individual attack me or my property that I would use deadly force
with extreme prejudice to protect both, and I was not going to pull over. Finally
an officer flagged me over to a side street and they got the maniac, arrested him,
and question me for about 10-seconds. One question, where was my firearm. I calmly said
on my right hip. Ok sir, thank you. No more questions needed, you are free to go.

The police were all hyped up and there four cars around me and three on the maniac.
Yea, I thought about an over reaction from the officers as they knew I was armed.
Fortunately the most professional of them confronted me.

Most people can overreact when calling in somebody with a firearm and could possibly lie
about the circumstance. As in your case it's refreshing to hear about a professional
officer handling that situation with tact. Most officers are/act professional.

” without having to shell out hundreds(sometimes $1000’s) of dollars for something that statistics show probably will not and/or should not be used.”

An unusual thing for a combat vet to say, especially a Marine. This sounds a little strange to me.

I want one. I have a neighbor who has been disagreeable, and it would be fun.

Me too. I would love to see the look on my neighbors’ faces if I “parked” that in my driveway...LOL

Indeed. A firearm should be used regularly at the range at least.

I wonder what Home Owners Associations would do in reaction. New bylaw on situation we failed to anticipate....no tanks or other treaded vehicles in driveways or anywhere else on property. Then there is always the creation of a hostile environment meme.

I’m reminded of when cell phones first came out and had the little pigtail shaped antenna on the rear window, people would buy a fake antenna to make others impressed with their status. There were stories of emergencies and victims begging the showoff to call for help, but he would have to admit it was all a sham. About as useful as a fake handgun.

I’m thinking maybe parking it right inside the entrance to our housing development migh deter thieves. They probably wouldn’t mind then...: )

In WWII, the OSS taught its agents that almost anything can be used as a weapon.

If, for whatever reason, you want to have a mimic weapon like this, it would behoove you to also carry a real weapon. This would assume you are in some odd place where real weapons are forbidden, yet mimic weapons are acceptable.

But, following that logic, if you have a mimic weapon, your real weapon should not look like a weapon, to the point where you can get a cursory pat search and they would not be able to identify and take it from you.

Bottom line: this is more trouble than it is worth.

Here is a brief summation of why open carry in Texas is banned.

It is a left over law from reconstruction:

One of my students recounted a situation where he was being harassed by an aggressive driver on the freeway in a relatively uninhabited area of Arizona.

He had a non-working cell phone in the car. He made motions as if he were calling on the phone, the harassment stopped, and the perp skedaddled.

I’d want a fake .500 Smith with an 8” barrel. That way you could drill it and load it with lead shot, and when you’re accosted you could use it as a club, beating the perp into a bloody, brain-spattered coma with shards of bone sticking out, shrieking in a primal scream as you pulverize his entire cranium with that and your steel-toed boots. And best of all, you don’t have to be one of those awful, violent Gun People.

He should probably consider the chances he will be accosted by a feral urban “yout” who is under the influence and calls his bluff out of stupidity. Then what? Does he become yet another statistic? Where’s the fun in that?
