Princeton Columnist: Criticizing How I Say “Cool Whip” is a “Microaggression”
Pundit Press ^ | 1/5/15 | Aurelius

In an article called “The history of “wh”: a microaggression,” a Princeton student has called out those who question his pronunciation of “cool whip” as offensive and perpetrators of a microaggression.

The piece was written by “Newby Patton,” who is listed as a Contributing Columnist by the paper.

In “The History of ‘wh,'” Patton explains the pain he has gone through during his life when people notice that he pronounces “wh” with a heavy “h” sound.

He never questioned how he pronounced “wh” before he came to college. Now, according to Patton, he is being mercilessly mocked by class students.

“My peers make a spectacle of it,” Patton painfully recounts. “‘Say Cool Whip,’ they’ll tell me… I’ll say ‘Cool Whip.’ They’ll repeat it back to me with exaggerated emphasis on the /h/. I’ve been pulled into this conversation several times now, and each time I grow a bit more self-conscious.”

At first Patton thought it was okay because he is a white male and because he is a white male he “gets less than my fair share of discrimination.” But then he realized that he was suffering from microaggression.

We used to collectively have enough sense to ignore the crazies among us. Guess not anymore.

(Sigh) You just can’t make this stuff up.....

And you wanna know why? Because if you’re like me, you got at least half a brain, and if you dreamed this up as fiction, you would instantly realize that it’s extremely bad fiction.

But it’s not.

You are right - it’s a “Family Guy” episode. I thought it might have been Seinfeld.

When a problem comes along
You must whip it
Before the cream sets out too long

Ignoring the crazies among us is “microaggression”, and probably racist.

Ummmm....next time try saying, "Piss off Jack or I'll slap the snot out of you."

No, it’s not “microaggression”, it’s “microtesticles”. Anyone who gets distraught by stuff like this has some tiny ones.

Could this Princeton guy be so dumb as to not know he’s the butt of a Family Guy prank?

In b-school, a professor said he did some consulting for a local processed food plant.

I knew a local GF factory made Cool Whip. The topic was hazardous waste, and how a massive batch of a food product that didn’t turn out right could turn into a hazardous waste headache for the purposes of disposal.

"Who now can hear any thing of the sound of h in a numerous class of words when pronounced by a Philadelphian? The words what, when, where, wheel, which, wharf, and a hundred others, are pronounced by the unlearned, and alas ! by the learned, exactly thus, wat, wen, were, weel, witch, warf, &.C. "
