Ruining Christmas 2014
Canada Free Press ^ | 12/24/14 | Alan Caruba

America has celebrated Christmas in the midst of two world wars in the last century and a score of lesser wars. We are a resilient people. We are reviving an economy that suffered a great financial crisis in 2008

As usual, those for whom laws, ethics, and good will mean nothing have come together to try to ruin Christmas for the rest of us.

Christmas means different things to different people and depends to a large degree on age. For the young it is a magical time of getting gifts. As one grows older it is a time of giving gifts and sending cards. And for the very old who have outlived many family members and friends, it is tinged with sadness. In between is an orgy of advertising using Santa Claus to sell cars and much else.

I will begin with a fulsome condemnation of those who go to court or raise a cry about the presence of Christmas displays or any religious symbol on “public land.” The Constitution does not forbid this. It forbids “the establishment of religion” which was understood to mean laws that made a particular religion a state religion such as the Church of England that exists today. The fact that some courts today do not understand this does not change the meaning or intent of the Constitution.

While I do not keep the Xmas traditions myself, I will argue that we were a better nation when everyone either revered or respected the holiday.

Now, like everything else in our society - the foundational respect for the cornerstone of liberty itself is regarded with indifference or hostility by a growing majority.

And in the vacuum Christianity leaves behind - it is being rapidly filled with Islam and/or secular Communism.

It has never been ‘The State’ that gave the world Christmas.

At present, ‘The State’ is attempting to eradicate any kind of Divine worshipping, because to do so, indicates that ‘The State’ is not all that powerful, and cannot meet the needs of The People.

At present, ‘The State’ has attempted to provide The People with an individual who seemed to be magnanimous, benevolent, and a partial omniscient. What we got is, a queer who hates everything that America has been; hates The People who have noted and spoken out about his ‘having no clothes’; hates the historical ties and treaties of other countries, that have been beneficial to both we and them; and has beset upon the nation a program of non-theologic secularism, very akin to a once proud Rome and that leader of comparison, Nero.

Are you Jewish?

Your homepage would indicate not

Just curious...

I’ve known Posse Commitatus folks....yes literally.....who couldn’t get past the date and winter solstice aspect

Yes...Easter is more important technically

But Christmas sure builds lots of pleasant life blocks for most of us

No worries

Enjoy the season... there are worse times of the year

Are you Jewish?

No, but folks would assume I'm Jewsish because I keep the biblical holy days.

I'm a devout Christian. I serve as a missionary in rural Southeast India.

That is an historical fact, but as I said - even though I do not celebrate the traditions, I hold no ill towards those who do. I am just as angered when the State and secularists attempt to deny, ban and remove those traditions from the public square.

I observe the Passover, for similar importance; the death of Jesus Christ as the perfect sacrifice for our sins to reconcile us to the Father.

But Christmas sure builds lots of pleasant life blocks for most of us

It does. As a society we were better off when our culture respected the joy many received and the focus on Christ and the holy attribution given to the tradition. "Gimme" certainly has replaced "giving". My high point of the year is in the Fall during the Feast of Tabernacles.

Enjoy the season... there are worse times of the year

April 15 and the two-year lead-up to the first Tuesday in November immediately come to mind.

January sucks pretty much too.
