The Republican Partys efforts to cite Illinois as a dire example of what happens when Democrats run a state was strongly contested by that states leading Democrats.
Republicans say that the fact that there are more people on welfare in the state than are working is a sign of poor government policies. Governor Pat Quinn characterized this argument as misleading. The fact that a prosperous minority is able to support the majority is a triumph of democracy. The haves caring for the have nots is the implementation of a moral ideal that lies at the core of every major religion.
Quinn also pooh-poohed GOP concerns about the states $78 billion in unfunded pension obligationsworse than any other state in the country. The Republican assumption that this will turn into a fiscal disaster overlooks the very real possibility that President Obama will issue an Executive Order authorizing the US Treasury to fund any shortfall, Quinn argued. Weve already seen how the President has broken free of restrictions that even he had previously feared to shuck off on the immigration issue. Can reasonable people really believe that he would allow these obsolete fetters to keep him from rescuing his home state?
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel totally rejected the GOP idea that his citys impressively high murder rate has anything to do with any policies he might have instituted. To apply white standards to this largely Black phenomenon is supremely insensitive and racist, he insisted. People who can afford to settle their disputes in court have no business criticizing the less costly methods of conflict resolution chosen by the poor.

Today’s satire; tomorrow’s executive order.
“The haves caring for the have nots is the implementation of a moral ideal that lies at the core of every major religion.
That’s the difference between religion and communism, with religion caring for the have nots comes from the heart, with communism it’s forced upon people.
Can somebody help me with what parts are satire and which parts are actual quotes from liberals? I can’t tell anymore.
Thank you in advance.
(Sniffle) Watta guy---he's so articulate and assertive (sob).
Rahm is a poor guy who "accidentally" got into Chicago politics w/ just 10 cents in his pocket---then miraculously became a multi-millionaire overnight.
The mayoralty (and its--cough--"benefits") is a job Emanuel has coveted since he was a machine go-fer back in the 1980s.....before he became Bill Clinton's national campaign finance chairman and served a dual role as senior White House aide AND Goldman Sachs lobbyist.
After Rahm "accidentally" became a multi-millionaire, thanks to a measly few months at a Wall Street investment firm......he decided to run for Congressman (was there for four terms).
The poor guy's stumble into politics culminated in Rahm as White House chief of staff for Obama (and helped create the 2010 Republican House landslide).
Shortly after quitting his powerful WH job as Obama's COS, Rahm held a presser declaring he "just remembered" he really, Really wanted to be Mayor of Chicago.
Then Rahm announced he had "accidentally" raised $10 million for his campaign "in just a matter of weeks."
Sob.
Ya gotta wonder how much Wall Street Rahm accidentally wired offshore when Obama put him in a dual role as COS AND in charge of the entire US Treasury.
THE SMOKING GUN---WSJ REPORT--On Jan 20, 2009 Timothy Geithner was appointed Obama's Secy of the Treasury. But within three weeks, the Obama White House tightened its grip on Treasury. Obama put his COS, Rahm Emanuel, in charge of Treasury---Rahm Emanuel's dual role was an unusual move.
When he got to Treasury, WH COS Rahm Emanuel was so involved in the inner workings of the Treasury that the phrase "Rahm wants it" had become an unofficial mantra among subservient govt staffers, prostrate in obeisance, scurrying to accede to Rahm's wishes, according to Treasury government officials.
