As Ive said a number of times before, Im not a big fan of Rick Perry, especially for president. Yes, there are worse RINOs out there, but while Perry has done some things right, hes sometimes betrayed conservative principles in ways that have just left me shaking my head.
Richard Viguerie at Conservative HQ reports Perry isnt helping conservatives believe in him with his hirings of two enemies of conservatives for his campaign: Henry Barbour and Steve Schmidt.
This week conservatives got the message loud and clear that Texas Governor Rick Perry is not one of us. He joined the inside-the-Beltway political class when he hired Henry Barbour, the shadowy figure allegedly behind infamous race-baiting ads in the recent Mississippi GOP Senate runoff and Steve Schmidt, the brains behind John McCains disastrous 2008 presidential bid and the inside operative who trashed Governor Sarah Palin throughout the campaign and who has made a point of attacking conservative Republicans at every opportunity since.
Heres what Schmidt said about Mitt Romneys failure to campaign on conservative principles:
We would have been much better off running against the real President Obama as opposed to the sinister pretend President Obama. And the total lack of credibility with some of this stuff, I think is just absolutely repellent to the middle of the electorate. And then when you look at the demographics, who is Rush Limbaugh talking to? He is talking to a demographic thats white, 65 plus, and rural. Its not what the country looks like anymore. So you have these talk radio hosts making millions and millions and millions of dollars a year driving a message of complete and total ludicrous nonsense into the electorate, a lot of it poisonous.
And
This no doubt explains why Barbour came to form Mississippi Conservatives PAC the shadowy entity allegedly behind the recruitment of Democrats to vote in the Republican primary through race-baiting robo-calls, race-baiting radio ads, race-baiting fliers, blatant violations of Mississippi election law, improper financial transactions, and old-fashioned walking around money, all to benefit Thad Cochran, the likely Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee should Republicans recapture the Senate majority.
Barbours behavior was so outrageous that it prompted me and a coalition of conservative leaders to demand an investigation and censure of Barbour; among those who signed the letter were Jenny Beth Martin, Chairman, Tea Party Patriots Citizens Fund; Colin Hanna, President, Let Freedom Ring; Tony Perkins, Chairman, FRC Action PAC; L. Brent Bozell, III, Chairman, For America; Matt Kibbe, President, FreedomWorks; Ken Blackwell, Former Ohio Secretary of State and Chairman of SOS4SOS PAC and Drew Ryun Former Director of Grassroots for the Republican National Committee.
They say a man is known by the company he keeps. If youre keeping company with (not to mention hiring) liberal RINOs who loathe conservatives (you know, the people who cherish the documented values of the Republican Party and expect to see them carried out in public policy), then youre consorting with the enemies of conservatism and the foundational principles of the Republican Party.
A man is also known by the enemies he keeps. If youre working with people who are the enemies of conservatives, youre aligning yourself as an enemy of conservatism.
That is NOT a formula for success in a presidential race. Just ask Mitt Romney, John McCain, and Bob Dole, and a host of other RINOs about whom the truth has been found out by the voters.
Perry is a distant 3rd or 4th choice for me- he’s a decent man, but I don’t think I trust him, even though he has the best executive (economic results) record you could imagine.
He seems just a little bit odd to me- not really married to conservative principles so much as knowing well what sells and works in TX politically
“Richard Viguerie at Conservative HQ reports Perry isnt helping conservatives believe in him with his hirings of two enemies of conservatives for his campaign: Henry Barbour and Steve Schmidt.”
A party by and for political consultants.
Talk about tone deaf.
I’m just amazed he would hire Henry Barbour, especially right now, with all the crap of the Cochran campaign. It’s disgusting.
I guess Anti-T.E.A. Partier Karl Rove was busy w/ Jeb.
Ted Cruz save us!

Please.....Knock the Dem candidates. There is no perfect Repub candidate. The Dems just sit back and watch us kill our own.
I would gladly pull the lever for Perry, even more so if he has an ever stronger conservative as the VP like Palin.
What do you expect from the former Texas chairman for Al Gore?
I don't give a rip what the democrats think. No one is killing Rick Perry, but I for one want to know who he is. Now is the time to pay attention. A RINO is no better than a democrat in very many ways. Don't doubt it.
Try again in 2020, Rick.
And here I thought the new glasses made him smarter...
I remember when Michelle Bachman hired Ed Rollins. I lost a lot of faith in Bachman when she did that. She had a fine voting record and was great on the issues, but that hire revealed a real weakness in her judgment, which was further demonstrated during her presidential run.
And Steve Schmidt is ten times worse than Rollins. The worst of the worst. The biggest creep, the biggest backstabber, the biggest political saboteur, out there. Bar none. The guy who goes on MSNBC and trashes conservatives with every breath. Then add Haley Barbour, whose sleaze and corruption have been right on display in Mississippi for all to see.
REALLY horrid move by Perry.
Wasn’t Perry at Bilderberg in Istanbul in 2007? Went there with Sebellius or something? Anti-Christ has more playthings than Lay’s has potato chips.
I agree he seems to be a decent man, but when I think of Perry, I think of the governor that pushed hard for the Trans Texas Highway, and I mean pushed hard for it against the will of the people. I don’t think that simply died. Something is still happening with regards to that. It simply disappeared from the radar.
I don’t trust him, or too many of our alleged representatives anymore.
Anybody have an update on that highway from Mexico to Canada that went under, and out of sight as a submarine at sea?
HAHAHAHAHA!!! :-)
Unreal PING
As you can see from my tagline, Perry has been my #3 choice after Palin and Cruz. I have been a big admirer of Rick Perry since doing the right thing in the 2012 campaign. My tagline will change after this post.
He is now off my list completely. He will now be with Chris Christie on my “I will revolt and not vote GOP!” list.
I mean, really? Steve Schmidt? That's the biggest “F*ck you” any candidate can give conservatives nowadays - right up there with touting a Karl Rove endorsement. Maybe Nicholle Wallace can help choose Mrs. Perry's wardrobe for her, too.
I'd like to return the “F*ck you,” Governor Perry. Enjoy your early retirement, you phony.
It must be true, I read it on the internet!
