Its a bold claim but one that is absolutely correct.
Scotland is, according to the Financial Times, one of the top twenty wealthiest countries in the world. Over the past five years, Scotland has been better off than the UK as a whole to the tune of £1,600 per person. And weve generated more tax per head than the rest of the UK in each of the last 33 years.
In fact, we are richer per head than the UK, France and even Japan. It is hard to imagine that any other nation has been as well-placed as wealthy Scotland for independence.

And they make some damn fine single malt.
and then they will become another Republic of the EUSSR being ruled from Brussels....
“Independence” it ain’t
How do you know?
For all we know Scotland might disentangle itself from the EU completely and look after themselves. Something we should try doing.
without the revenue from crude oil,
the Scots economy would look like Somalia
At this point I don’t think Scotland will care; they’ll have their independence and likely will welcome not having to put up with the drama that goes on with the EU all the time. No major loss there.
Key question of Scottish “Wealth”:
Who gets the North Sea gas??
Depending on who you believe, the Scottish North Sea gas reserve estimates are either “ludicrously pessimistic”

Or “Wildly overestimated”:

Ladbroke’s odds at the mo:
Scotland to vote NO to independence: 1.12
Scotland to vote YES to independence: 5.50
No lead so far for the YES in any of the polls:

The debate is a final do or die for Alex Salmond who had big problems last time to explain how an independent Scotland could keep the pound despite Westminster saying no to a monetary union. Another problem for Salmond is the fact that he wants to remain in the EU (stupid him!) but how he is going to do that without accepting the euro is a problem he should have solved before putting the question to the people.
Ping
That graph goes against the article: it shows an incredibly lopsided economy that is strong because, and only because, of oil and gas. It is another Norway or Russia.

And I thought I read that the North Sea is nearly depleted...
Scotland is very socialistic, much to the dismay of its ancestors. If it goes its own way, with its current mindset, it will go broke in a hurry.
