One year ago today, 19 members of the Granite Mountain Hot Shots wildland fire crew died during the Yarnell Hill fire in central Arizona. We in Prescott will pause today to remember our fallen heroes.
Does anyone know and can say if the family survivors of these heroes ever got the “survivor benefits” that were in dispute? I would hope that if a city can honor VOLUNTEERs who risked and DIED to save others would not fail to also honor that obligation!
I would be willing to bet the families got something. But it don’t replace what they lost.
Some said that the Dept of the Interior is to blame for a lot of these fires because they wont allow anyone to clean the area of dead wood because it might upset the balance of Nature. Animals are worth more than people in the eyes of tree huggers.
