Growing from seed is easy once you get the hang of it.
Tobacco is a great looking plant, and smokes good too.

This was container gardening with a drip system on a timer.
Some of Those plants got up to 7ft. I picked the lower leaves as they turned
yellow because I smoke ultra light. The Tomatoes didn't mind the company either.

I used garlic to fend off the moths from laying their eggs under the leaves.
Pesky buggers.

I walk the tobacco three times a day and smash the tobacco worms. And yep, they can get tall.

I generally leave the 3 or 4 best plants un-topped so they go to seed to save for the next year.

How much time do you both spend on taking care of the tobacco plants?

Do you manage to grow enough to have tobacco all year long?

What about storage of all that tobaaco?

I am really interested in this. Well done and congrats. I use a hand cranking cigarette machine myself but even the strong tobacco is a little expensive ( I do live in Boston though ). What I buy is similar in strength to Drum tobacco. Really a nice strong smoke.

Others I have tried just seem a little limp.

Thanks for the insight!

I spend a lot of time in the garden anyway. I spend much more time and effort on growing squash than tobacco.

Curing tobacco takes time and effort. I have more time than cash.

I'll be growing enough tobacco this year for more than a year's worth. I smoke about 1 lb of tobacco a month.

I'm single, so curing and storing the tobacco isn't a problem. When the tobacco is curing, though, you'll need to duck while walking through most of the house. ;)

Curious how the tax revenue BOOST to the neighboring states with lower tax rates is not even a concern for the authors.

What?! They get REWARDED for having lower tax rates? Horrors!!

That crop came out to about 32lbs of cured tobacco. You can store it
vacuum packed in the refrig or just in the pantry. Careful about
humidity though, and moisture. Tobacco can go rank and rot if not
stored properly.

There are some good books out there if you're interested.
Here's the guide I used, successfully.

OMG.
Please.
Someone quick cue the world's tiniest violin, because one of the countless taxes foisted on the public is being undermined.
This is so distressing.
Very sad news.

So do anti smoking campaigns. They act surprised that the funds won't roll in forever.

When I was a teenager I dipped snuff. Copenhagen was 27 cents a can. I was 25 when I was buying cigs on base for 25 cents a pack. That was in the 80s.

The Boston Tea Party was a political protest by the Sons of Liberty in Boston, on December 16, 1773. The demonstrators, some disguised as American Indians, destroyed an entire shipment of tea, which had been sent by the East India Company, in defiance of the Tea Act of May 10, 1773.

They boarded the ships and threw the chests of tea into Boston Harbor, ruining the tea. The British government responded harshly and the episode escalated into the American Revolution.

The Tea Party became an iconic event of American history, and other political protests such as the Tea Party movement after 2010 explicitly refer to it.

I always thought the Sons of Liberty were not disguised as Indians but rather dressed as Indians as the Indian was the symbol of America.
