In hindsight, you may be right. I disagreed at the time with treating the Arabs with kid gloves, letting the Saudis leave the country, and all the "religion of peace" crap. They were saying that demonizing the enemy is wrong, when demonizing the enemy is good for national morale. If we had done more of that, we wouldn't have so many lawsuits by CAIR trying to impose sharia law, and we might not have been ready to elect Hussein to the presidency.

We were galvanized by his initial speeches, and then his people kicked ass in Afghanistan. After that is when things started to go downhill.

“Dubai Ports”

What exactly are you referring to?

A terrible President, though.

Point of view, perhaps ?

Regardless, I have yet to see ANYONE make a list of the 'qualifiers' a GOOD President must have.

So... I will ask you... What 'makes' a GOOD President, in your opinion ?

He may have made some bad decisions but one thing is for sure, he loves this country.

Can’t say I miss him. His brother is roaming around as a Rino. Not much to miss.

JFK in 1961 was more conservative than Bush in 2001. But he was in the Democrat's liberal wing. I don't know if you can compare them. He was a cold warrior, as was Nixon, and in that, the key issue of the day, they stood their ground. Carter and Ford did not. I don't necessarily dispute your list of Presidents who were worse than Bush, but I would still classify him as terrible. First, all Democrats are pretty much worse than Bush. Goes without saying. So that doesn't make him not terrible. He was the heir of the Gingrich revolution, had the House and a tie in the Senate, and was elected as a conservative, and he governed as a liberal. His spending was atrocious, worse than Clinton's. And the worst thing he did was set the stage for Obama by letting himself be a punching back for 8 long years, never fighting.

I think he was terrible, it is just that we have had a lot of terrible presidents, so he is not the most terrible. He is like Hoover perhaps, a progressive Republican who made things worse and set the stage for a liberal democrat to come in and do a lot of damage.

He’s a nice guy. He’s also a big government globalist and was a worthless president. And ‘worthless’ is the nicest I can be.

No more Bushes. No more RINO’s. Better to see the real face of liberalism under obutthole than have it masked and the poison slowly administered via a RINO.

We need to bring the cultural war to a final confrontation NOW. Not wait until the military has been completely co-opted.

In comparison to what we have now, GWB's era seems like heaven. But his mistakes were big ones, and they have led to what we have now, a marxo-slamic narcissist in charge of what was once America. I consider him terrible for what his mistakes led to. Had he been president in 1989, when his father was elected or in the 1960s, mediocrity would not have cost much. The Jt. Chiefs kept us safe, the country was able to run one way or the other no matter who was in charge. But in 2001, we came under attack, and by then, the Democrats had converted to full-out Marxist mode. Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi and the MSM in full propaganda mode. Letting them get away with it is tantamount to giving the country to Chairman Mao, which is what Bush did. And we are now paying for that.

So his RINO-ness and mediocrity cost us a lot more than Ford's and GHWB's. That is why I consider him terrible. Is it fair to judge him by what came after? I don't know. Is it fair to praise Lincoln and Reagan because their policies bore fruit?

How can you say he loved this country
....yet he was willing to cede America to the illegals in a heartbeat.....even shaming out of work Americans in the process.

Just because we’re living an Obama nightmare doesn’t make Bush a Saint George

I think one thing that showed Bush’s character versus what we have now:

He did not use the power of his office to go after his political enemies, as this one does. In spite of the daily grinding and bashing he endured from the psychos on the left, to the best of my memory, there was no IRS targeting of left-wing groups, no official encroachment or threatening of them.

At least I truly don’t remember it if there was.

I will tell you who I consider good presidents last Century, and then we can discuss what qualities they had.

Good: Harding, Eisenhower
Great: Reagan, Coolidge
Horrible: Wilson, Carter, LBJ
Meh: Truman, Kennedy, TR, Ford, GHWB
Bad: Roosevelt (not horrible, because he could have been worse. He could have gone fascist. I will accept arguments that he was horrible), Hoover, Clinton, Nixon (bad not as much for policies, but because of the destruction he left in his wake, similar to Bush).

On this list, I would put GWB in the group of "bad" presidents. He would be "meh" if he had not spent so damn much and decided near the end of his term that the response to an economic problem was to triple-down on spending with the TARP plan. His inability to respond to relentless attacks, and his inability to appoint economic leaders at the Fed and in Treasury who would be conservative helped lead to the notion that socialism would save us, and that Obama was a great choice to lead the nation. Instead of railing against Obama's known radicalism, he welcomed him to the club. Look what that has done to us.

A great president is one who protects America's interests abroad, respects the constitution, especially with respect to the limits of government, keeps taxes low and the economy humming by supporting those who create jobs and income, sets a strong moral example, protects the interests of US workers and industry, does not attempt to regulate everything, and honors our common heritage and unique American culture instead of tearing it down. A great President pushes back against prior progressive incursions against America, instead of adopting them, allowing them or making them worse.

He also hired mall cops to do the job of the military.

Look up the mission of the Coast Guard and its use to guard airports and railway stations when mobilized in earlier times. Evaluate their standards, training and performance.

Now look up the missions of the Department of Homeland Security, and the TSA.

Contrast the performance of the two.

Has this duplication of function been a positive or a negative?

That was one of the early things I was upset about. We let a lot of that slide in the early years, because of the war, but looking back, we should not have. But that one irritated me. He gave in to Tom Daschle, who insisted that TSA should be government union workers, which meant billions of dollars for jobs for democrat voters. Great idea. And the think that irked me was, he didn't need to give in. If he stood fast, Daschle would have looked bad at a time when we are recovering from attack, he is looking to pad the government rolls. But Bush just wanted a bill, and he wanted it right now.

The NSA and all that spying on us stuff got worse under Bush. Clinton did a lot of it, too, but Bush should have put an end to it. Forcing Americans to take off their shoes, and Grandmas to have their wheelchairs scanned, instead of doing what even a bad President like Roosevelt would have done--kick out the damn Muzzies and those that we do let stay are the ones who we keep an eye on. We didn't get attacked by Constitutionalists!!!!

No question he (GWB) was a good man. A terrible president though.

I'd describe him as a reluctant president. The global elitists wanted someone without a voting record whom they could dominate.

Could Obama with all of his excesses had happened if GWB had been the conservative president he campaigned to be? GWB got the ball rolling uncontrollably on a lot of the stuff which is destroying the US.
