That’s not very different from “corruption of a minor” crimes in the west.

There is one HUGE difference between Russia's gay propoganda law and "corruption of a minor" crimes in the west: it is a Russian law prohibiting propoganda. You're crazy if you think, for one second, that Putin and his henchmen won't use this law against his political opponents (whether by planting prohibited "propoganda" on social media sites, re-defining "propoganda," or something else).

The fine is $150.

If done over internet or mass media, fine is $6000.

Only if the person is a foreigner is jail possible, and then only 15 days (plus possible deportation)

So, you think Putin will use this law to smear his political opponents. Praytell, how did he get a unanimous vote for it in the DUMA across the entire left-right spectrum then?

I am sure he will force the opposition to promote homosexual to children! He will mess with their teleprompters. lol

He can have his opponents arrested and imprisoned right now, and he does, he doesn’t need a law like this for that purpose.
