Weve seen so many police abuse lawsuits settled before making it to trial where cops admit no wrongdoing while guiltily dishing out thousands of taxpayer dollars that its surprising to see one actually make it to trial.
And its absolutely flabbergasting to see it result in a cop ordered personably liable.
The cop is none other than Sterling Wheaton of the Atlantic City Police Department, whom we became familiar with back in September when he drove up to a group of five fellow officers beating on a suspect and sicced his dog on him in an incident caught on surveillance video.
Then we later learned that Wheaton was already named a defendant in three unrelated lawsuits alleging abuse over the five previous years, including one where he is accused of ripping the phone out of the hands of woman recording him, only for her never to see the phone again.
Now we are learning that another of those three lawsuits involved him beating up a prosecutor from the state attorneys office nonetheless, which is probably the last person you want to beat up if youre one of these asshole cops like Wheaton who think they can do whatever they want.
A jury awarded Michael Troso $500,000, half which the city must pay, the other half which Wheaton must pay, who incredulously, is still employed by the Atlantic City Police Department, despite the liability he has proven to be.

Judge should dock half his pay and half his pension.
It’s a Christmas miracle!
About. Freakin. Time.
Ping.
He’s still employed? Unbelievable.
Hes still employed? Unbelievable.
I wish it were unbelievable. The only thing government consistently does well is look after the interests of government.
Should be more but still.
But remember the important thing: this fine officer was able to return home safely to his family. (/sarcasm)
A sad tale...
Hope this is a national trend. If cops lose enough of these cases it might bankrupt the TOP who underwrite cop liability insurance.
Posting mobile and auto correct strikes again. I meant FOP not top!
This needs to be become more common, cops and judges and teachers who abuse others should pay out of their own pockets instead of taking it from taxpayers

Poor wolfi-ette. She has gotta be pullin’ her hair out over this one! One of his beloved can’t do no wrong jackboots has to pay.......out of his own pocket!!??? Oh the horror!
Wow, how much are cops in New Joisey paid? Who has $250K? A hundred bucks a week for life?
It’s a start.
“To those who say police officers should be personally responsible for misconduct, here is a case from, of all places, New Jersey. “
But so very damn rare. Cops have little fear of being personally liable for their actions, and that makes them incredibly careless and aggressive.
