Salamander do you have a Maryland ping list?
Except I lived in Silver Spring. And it was back in 1967.
But apart from those pesky details; I loved it. Great place!
Come and join us! We need more good conservatives here.
Run away! Run away!
I’m sure they probably don’t appreciate hitech rednecks in Merryland.
Anne Arundel County is nominally Republican. The Democrats have gerrymandered the crap out of our county. I actually vote in a district with the poorest parts of Prince Georges county down by DC. My section of A.A. has nothing to do with DC.
Pasadena, Md is actually filled with hi-tech rednecks. Lots of rich rednecks living on the bay, hunters, and fisherman. Like me.
What are the taxes like there?
The Hanover area has a lot of high tech work for the government. Not a bad area to live in. In contrast to other Maryland counties near the DC Metro area (e.g., Montgomery & Prince Georges counties), Anne Arundel County is pretty conservative. Within AA county you there are lots of nice upscale areas with excellent schools.
The city of Annapolis, which is inside of Anne Arundel county, just elected a Republican mayor.
I was forced out of Michigan, my home of 48 years by the Governess who destroyed the economy. I found a job in my field in the PRM.(People’s Republic of Maryland) I work in Baltimore down near th eharbor, but chose to live in Harford County, which is pretty red. From what I’ve seen, south of Baltimore is highly disgustingly liberal. Caroll County is really good and conservative. Stay out ot Montgomery and Prince Georges.
People here can’t drive, but they do drive fast. Politically, plan on never having anyone represent your views.
Hanover is pretty nice actually.
The big thing there now though is Maryland Live Casino at Arundel Mills. Lots of investment pouring in, not sure what it may do to the crime situation.
My sense of the place is that there are many military and DOD contractors living in the area and it has always seemed stable to me.
I don’t reckon Paul was keen on getting hauled off to Rome either but from what I have seen of you and gauged of your character I know you will go where your told and praise God for it!
Lived inside the beltway (VA) most of my life but finally escaped. If you live well west or east of the I 95 Balto/DC corridor there are many lovely spots. Mountains or Chesapeake Bay are an easy drive. If you can flex your hours to avoid traffic (or don’t mind commuting) there are great areas. Take your time to find a place to live away from the main drag and you’ll be fine.
I have lived in Maryland most of my life and I hate it. I have lived in my current home in Bethesda, Montgomery Cty, for 23 years. I dream every day of getting out of here. The people are all very liberal, it’s expensive, crowded and the weather sucks.
If I was you, I’d look in Virginia. It’s bad, but not as bad. My son is a computer programmer and has a great job there. He can also own and carry guns.
Maryland is unsaveable.
I’ve lived here in Maryland for almost 50 years. If I had a job in Hanover, I would most likely live in either Anne Arundel or Howard County.
Taxes are high, but you should be able to sell any real estate you buy in 5 years or so for more than you paid for it.
Good luck.
Anne Arundel County isn’t bad, but it’s still part of Maryland. You’d better check out our new gun laws to see what you can and cannot bring into the state and what you have to do.
Me, in a couple of years I’m leaving, probably moving to Texas.
Post 39 is quite correct about the resale value of the property. The husband and I lived within an hour of what is now the site of a new casino there before we retired to MD’s beautiful Eastern Shore. The rate of development in the Hanover area is astounding because of that stinking casino but also because of the government work at Ft. Meade, but you can find some decent housing and nice people in Harford and Anne Arundel Counties, as #39 says.
You might also want to check out the Catonsville area of Baltimore County.
Had to clear out the in-floating debris everyday and the marine railroad terminus butted up against a huge factory building.
Pretty humid in the summers.
High State Income tax when combined with the County piggyback rate.
AA Co. has some nice places, but likely pricy. Best to avoid a big commute.
I live in Severna Park, Anne Arundel Co. A nice little Conservative enclave on the Severn River, 5 miles as the crow flies from Annapolis...excellent National Blue Ribbon public schools (all of them) because the parents care. Nice alternative to to the $10-30K/yr private schools. I’ve grown up here since 1976...we need more Conservatives. Love the Chesapeake...
If you have kids who will attend public school... you’ll want your kids to attend school in Howard or Montgomery County, and then you’ll want to look at the school demographics and number of AP classes offered in the high schools.
Job wise, this area has been pretty bullet proof.
You could live in Howard County. It’s very nice. There are actually some conservatives there. It’s geographically handsome, far more peaceful than Montgomery or Anne arundel, and a quick commute to Hanover.
