Let me begin by noting that, as a small L libertarian, I find some of Ken Cuccinellis policy positions deeply disconcerting. That said, I will gladly pull the (computerized) lever for him on Tuesday, because his opponent who has never held elected office and whose sole claim to fame is being a high-dollar fundraiser for Bill Clinton is so very much worse on almost every issue. In this case, theres a titular Libertarian running, but in truth, if you look beyond a couple of social issues, he seems far less libertarian than Cuccinelli himself. In fact, heres an editorial making the case that, if elected, Ken Cuccinelli will be perhaps the most libertarian governor in the country.
If you believe the polls, the race is tightening, and Cuccinelli has a good shot at winning if Virginias libertarians arent fooled by a so-called Libertarian candidate who is in favor of tax hikes, and against Austrian economics. In fact, if youre considering voting for the Libertarian candidate because youre concerned about Cuccinellis respect for privacy rights, keep in mind that youd be voting instead for someone who has advocated a vehicle-miles tax that would require the installation of a government-monitored black box in every personally-owned vehicle in the state.
You could vote for the so-called Libertarian . . . or you could vote for a Republican who agrees with you on 80% of the issues, and actually has a shot at beating the Democrat who agrees with you only on the other 20%. Speaking for myself, Ill take the latter, thank you.
Go vote on Tuesday!
Libertarian is the Political Dirty Word—why its almost as bad as being a Christian or a Jew! Maybe a bit more Libertarian might be a good think—we know that Progressism/Socialism aint cutting it. Old Style GOP Loafer Republicans don’t have any real answers save for geting on with Democrats and the Media. We need change and until we get a good 3rd Party to shake things up—go with the Libertarian—Just get the Democrat out!
I agree, Grania. The Libertarian guy is a Dem plant.
Libertarian is a dirty word because they are anti-Christian, anti-God, and anti-conservative.
Libertarians are like their candidate in this race, pro-abortion, pro-gay agenda, pro-everything like that.

Spoken like true Democrat! Lets put in a Progressive! Why they are Pro-God, and everything! Obama, for President for Life! Or better yet—lets save money by making him King-Emperor of America! No more need for any elections! He could Appoint members of Congress to rubber stamp his decrees.
Spoken like a true democrat? Really? pro-life, anti-gay agenda, pro-God and the Christian culture of America is like a democrat?
The democrats share those same political causes and values that I described about the libertarians, not the politics and values of conservatives.
Libertarians and Democrats are a lot more alike than Libertarians and conservatives will ever be
It apparently has to do with a case involving an adult soliciting oral sex from a minor. The guy managed to get his conviction reversed in federal court, based on the unconstitutionality of anti-sodomy statutes. Cuccinelli tried to get the conviction reinstated, based on the adult-minor aspect of the case. So, no, Cuccinelli was not trying to reimpose sodomy laws.
Cuccinelli is the real, sane libertarian in the race. Sarvis, the official Losertarian, is a DINO, a 'Rat lite. Properly communicated, his positions ought to siphon more votes from McAuliffe than from Cuccinelli.
What specifically do you not like about Cuccinelli? He is clearly the most conservative candidate in the race. McAuliffe is a liberal while the so-called libertarian third party candidate has proven to be a liberal as well.
