The Libertarian Case for Ken Cuccinelli
RedState ^ | November 2, 2013 | mjdaniels

Posted on 11/03/2013 2:26:56 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

Let me begin by noting that, as a “small ‘L’” libertarian, I find some of Ken Cuccinelli’s policy positions deeply disconcerting. That said, I will gladly pull the (computerized) lever for him on Tuesday, because his opponent – who has never held elected office and whose sole claim to fame is being a high-dollar fundraiser for Bill Clinton – is so very much worse on almost every issue. In this case, there’s a titular Libertarian running, but in truth, if you look beyond a couple of social issues, he seems far less libertarian than Cuccinelli himself. In fact, here’s an editorial making the case that, if elected, Ken Cuccinelli will be perhaps the most libertarian governor in the country.

If you believe the polls, the race is tightening, and Cuccinelli has a good shot at winning if Virginia’s libertarians aren’t fooled by a so-called “Libertarian” candidate who is in favor of tax hikes, and against Austrian economics. In fact, if you’re considering voting for the Libertarian candidate because you’re concerned about Cuccinelli’s respect for privacy rights, keep in mind that you’d be voting instead for someone who has advocated a vehicle-miles tax that would require the installation of a government-monitored “black box” in every personally-owned vehicle in the state.

You could vote for the so-called “Libertarian” . . . or you could vote for a Republican who agrees with you on 80% of the issues, and actually has a shot at beating the Democrat who agrees with you only on the other 20%. Speaking for myself, I’ll take the latter, thank you.

Go vote on Tuesday!

"......Indeed, Mr. Cuccinelli was the first attorney general in the country to sue over the law after it was passed in March 2010, and has gone all in recently on highlighting the botched roll-out and issues with healthcare.gov as a key difference between he and Democrat Terry McAuliffe.

“This is a referendum on Obamacare, and to help us clarify that point, the president is coming tomorrow,” he told a crowd outside of a GOP office in Prince William, drawing scattered boos."..... More

In my mind, if McAwful is elected, that pretty much puts Virginia for me in the same class as Al Franken’s Minnesota.

What’s the supposed issue with Cuccinelli and privacy rights?

I think this is in reference to his obsession with overturning sodomy laws and rights to sexual privacy.

VA-Gov: Supreme Court Smacks Down Ken Cuccinelli’s (R) Sodomy Law Appeal" "Yesterday, the Supreme Court handed Ken Cuccinelli (R. VA) a huge loss:

The U.S. Supreme Court declined Monday to take up an appeal of a lower-court ruling that struck down Virginia’s anti-sodomy law, halting state Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli II’s long-standing legal efforts to preserve the statute.

Cuccinelli is the Republican nominee for governor on the Nov. 5 ballot, and Virginia’s “crimes against nature” law — which bans oral and anal sex — has become a flash point in his contest against businessman Terry McAuliffe (D), who has portrayed Cuccinelli as an extremist on social issues.

Cuccinelli and other defenders of the law, including local prosecutors, have said that it is a vital tool for stopping child predators. Cuccinelli has said that the law “is not — and cannot be — used against consenting adults acting in private.” - Washington Post, 10/7/13

a so-called “Libertarian” candidate who is in favor of tax hikes, and against Austrian economics.

What is the big thing about Austrian economics? Their big claim to fame is to demonstrate several of Keynes' errors, they still get a lot wrong. If the libertarian is against Austrian economic because he is for Keynes, that is a non-starter, if it is due to the Austrians errors that is a whole nother discussion.

Unfortunately I will not be voting for Cuccinelli as I live in MD

“VIRGINIA BEACH — Conservative Republican star Rand Paul helped Ken Cuccinelli fire up his Hampton Roads troops Monday, saying the GOP gubernatorial candidate would defend freedom in the face of federal encroachment.

Hitting hard on the Affordable Care Act and recent revelations about National Security Agency easedropping, Paul told a crowd of nearly 300 at the Philippine Cultural Center of Virginia in Virginia Beach that Cuccinelli was commited to small government, protection of gun rights and privacy rights.......”

A coalition that gets the RINO stink out of DC is going to be conservative about constitutional things and more hands-off than conservatives are about personal freedoms. It would be a meeting of the minds of Ted Cruz and Rand Paul.

I only know what I'm reading, but this would be a start. The "Libertarian" candidate sounds like the dems version of a RINO, in there to sabotage the Republicans. The Libertarians have a lot to gain with Rand Paul and Ron Paul already in the conversation in VA. JMHO

In his entire life, the only thing McAuliffe ever managed was to line his own pockets at taxpayer expense.

Rights to sexual privacy? Obsession? Why do you criticize Cuccinelli in liberal terms? In your defense of baby-killing and the homosexual agenda, you sound exactly like Obama himself.

How about this: Cuccinelli has faithfully upheld traditional conservative and Christian values that are the heart and soul of this great country.

Why are you holding your nose on Cuccinelli? Tell us exactly what issues you are a squishy liberal on?

I very much hope he wins but if a focus on those issues is the margin of loss especially among women voters it isn’t liberals that are going to do the criticizing.

Chris Frates, CNN's investigative correspondent, reported Friday: "Senate Democrats voted unanimously three years ago to support the self-same ObamaCare rule that is largely responsible for some of the health insurance cancellation letters now going out to irate policyholders."

===============================================

The O/Care debacle is looking more and more like the House check-kiting scandal years back. Dems--even in safe seats-- were tossed out by angry constituents (cackle).

Democrats Scramble to Distance Themselves from Obamacare (RATS want a refund)
Breitbart | 10/30/13 | Wynton Hall / FR Posted November 01 by Libloather

**SNIP** Other Democrats now say they agree with Republicans that a delay of the individual mandate may be the only way to salvage the disaster and save face. "I think the administration is going to have to look at it [delay of the individual mandate]. and I'd encourage them to do so," said Rep. Gene Green (D-TX).

Five Democrats have now asked for the Obama Administration to seek a refund from the contractors responsible for the Obamacare website fiasco.

GUILTY CONSCIENCES FROM VOTING FOR O/CARE? Reps. Ron Barber (D-AZ), William Enyart (D-IL), Pete Gallego (D-TX), Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), and Filemon Vela (D-TX) wrote a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder urging the reimbursement effort.

ACTION NOW.....printout a summary of the pro-policyholder Republican amendment, with a list of EVERY SINGLE DEMOCRAT who voted against protecting policyholders, and use it in upcoming elections....in letters to the editor, ads, fliers, bumper stickers, lawn signs, etc..........

I agree — the critics will come out. It is hard to be pro-life in a blue state without the pro-abort media saying you are extreme. Women voters are overly sensitive on the abortion issue. Do women really have to worry about having have a baby through a rape? The odds are millions to one against.

All pro-lifers can do is still to their guns (and sonograms) and hope public opinion will continue to turn in their favor. Giving up on abortion and marriage will be fatal to the Republican Party.

Gee, a person who is violating the ‘voting purity’ rules to try to defeat the worst candidate.

Psychologists have established that just *seeing* the American flag makes Americans feel more patriotic for as long as two weeks. And these feelings of patriotism lean very heavily to supporting Republicans, not Democrats.

If Virginians want Cuccinelli to win, it would be a big help for them to raise the American flag today, tomorrow and election day. As many flags as they and their conservative friends can raise, in as many places as they can. Even put them on your car’s antenna. You want as many Virginians as possible to see the flag up to and through election day.

It could very well be the final push that gets Cuccinelli elected.

If you can get hundreds of small, cheap flags from some store and just put them all over the place, it can really matter. Just walk through your neighborhood and put a small one in everyone’s front yard. They won’t last long, but they won’t need to.

A few dollars could win the election.
