Why are U.S. hurricanes given names? Names are actually given to tropical storms but if they reach a sustained wind speed of 74 miles per hour, then they are deemed hurricanes. These types of destructive storms are given monikers because naming them makes it much easier for meteorologists, researchers, emergency response workers, ship captains, and citizens to communicate about specific hurricanes in a clear manner. So after decades of hurricane and storm names, did a Black Congresswoman demand that African-American names be included?
...
In July 2003, Sheila Jackson Lee (pictured), a Democratic member of Congress who represents the 18th District of Texas and a staunch supporter and member of the NAACP, Congressional Black Caucus, and a civil rights crusader, began criticizing the meteorological community for their blatant exclusion of African-Americans names for storms and hurricanes.

I had to check to see if this was satire. I still can’t tell.
This ought to be a hoot ping for later.
I knew a black girl in high school named Katrina. So this has already been done.
Hurricane Shith-ead.
Too bad “S” is too far down the list, so we couldn’t have “Hurricane Shaniqua.”
I thought her name was “Latrina.”
Someday when Guam goes belly up and Obama makes the oceans dry up and the mother ship comes down from space and the flag on the moon is proven true.... someday Sheila will be vindicated and honoring her with naming a hurricane after her will be justified.

//sarc
Urethra Franklin Latrina
Besides which there's always the amusement which would follow if that hurricane devestated Ms. Jackson's district. <^..^>
Hurricane Shauntee?
IOW, make up a set of syllables that no one has combined before? Or a real creative use of punctuation? (La-a comes to mind. That’s La Dasha.) Or use something that sounds African?
I heard a story about a black woman who named her daughter Placenta. When the doctor said the word after delivery, she thought it sounded nice.
Hurricane Placenta.... ooookay
Hurricane Whoopi.
Yikes !!!!
.
Hurricanes Lymonjello and Orynjello, has a certain ring to it....
(yes, these are the names of two teen brothers I met recently)
Hurricane Dwyane?
You guys are slow this morning. Don’t you get it? The first one is supposed to be St. Skittles,................Trayvon, the patron saint of Purple Drank”.........................
Hurricane Travon.......only if it hits white Hispanics in Florida
I feel sorry for blacks, I really do. They actually have no identity thanks to “The Great Society” and dems in general.
“Kwanzaa” is completely made up BS. Those weird “French”/ghetto names like Sha’Quonda, Elephantisha and La’Quaysha are out of thin air. Totally meaningless. They simply do not and aren’t allowed to identify with a culture.
Lemonjello (La-mon-gha-low)
and
Orangejello (Or-rhan-gha-low)
And of course, Simian.
