The more things change, the more things stay the same. The Great Depression actually started in 1929, but as you will see below, as late as 1933 the Associated Press was still pumping out lots of news stories with optimistic economic headlines and many Americans still did not believe that we were actually in a depression. And of course we are experiencing a very similar thing today.

In their hubris and arrogance they think they're actually helping... that their stories control the events of the day, and they can feel good that they are preventing worse. Corrupt incompetence second only to our Dear Leader.

The media got started under Former Treasury Secretary Andrew Mellon, appalled at the abuses undertaken the name of progressivism, warned newspaper reporters not to accept the New Deal pretext of a permanent crisis. The Great Depression, Mellon said was just a “bad quarter-hour” in the glorious history of American growth. The Great Depression was the most catastrophic economic event in our nation’s history, Americans certainly understood the true hardship and suffering of the times just as they don’t need constant media coverage to get the calamity we are in now.

Obama’s plan to destroy the economy is right on track. Try to imagine 3.5 years from now.

Thanks Joe Jitsu.

The stock market crash happened in 1929, thanks to a Hoover idea about (if memory serves) reserve requirements; that led to a economic cascade failure including stampedes on the banks, no money in circulation (35% drop due to the idiotic Smoot-Hawley tariffs alone), retail spending collapse, massive unemployment, and just for fun, unrelated but simultaneous regional natural disasters like the Dust Bowl. Meanwhile the constant violence by so-called labor organizers didn't abate; US armed forces were used against the "Bonus Army", and other tone-deaf foolishness.
