Elysium: just saw it, and liked it
self | aug 10, 2013 | beebuster2000

Posted on 08/10/2013 7:32:12 PM PDT by beebuster2000

Just saw it mid day saturday. theatre was pretty crowded but not packed.

i kind of liked it. damon was good as low level criminal that gets into a big big mess. Jodie Foster was really good as the evil b*&%h that runs the space station habitat. For reasons never explained she speaks French, and has some odd kind of French accent. Aside from that she fills the roll. She also fills out her tight skirt, looks like Ms. Foster has ballooned a little. Might have gone another way on the rear tight skirt shots. Double wide.

Lot of stuff ripped off from other Sci Fi, like Larry Nivens Ringworld, and all the exoskeleton and mean robot stuff from a zillion other films. Plus a major rip off from Johnny Mnemonic about loading big data into the brain. Kind of a rip of Iron Man too in a way, but it still hangs together.

Ending isnt too surprising, i wont give it away.

The guy who starred in District 9 plays the bad guy and he is really good. Lot of cool miltech scenes and hardware. Fight scenes, but not too many.

Special effects and visuals were outstanding.

All in all, if you are a sci fi fan, a must see. But then I liked Oblivion, so there you go.

Oh, and the "political agenda"? Thats BS, there isnt any, its strictly the usual down and outs against the haves, no big deal, no more than Les Miserables or any other film like that. No biggie, not in your freeper face thats for sure, IMHO.

people are people, rich or poor. being an a$$hole or jerk, or good person isn’t dependent on how much you make. Being rich can help a jerk be a bigger jerk, and being really poor can help a jerk be really more violent and a thug.

But money or lack of money doesn’t force a personality change that isn’t inherent within the person. It may help accelerate it, but it isn’t the source of that person’s “a$$holeness”. That resides in a person’s heart.

The robot in the original Day the Earth Stood Still was the subject of urban legends, claiming that the actor in the suit was various celebrities, ranging from Captain Kangaroo to Ed McMahon. In fact, the actor was a non-actor, a doorman at a Chinese restaurant in New York who was very tall and therefor able to almost fill-out the robot suit. I think even then he had to stand on some kind of extended legs.

You’re right, hypocrites come in all sizes, and some people just HAVE to make everything political. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, and a movie is just entertainment.

Might have to check it out to see Foster fill the “roll”.

I don’t care if you don’t like it - I’ll say it: any conservative who supports Hollywood with his money is a damn fool.

If you look closely at the Film, Gort’s “shoes” had something like a four inch lift.

In the scene where Gort is cornering the Actress and she says the famous line “Gort, Klatu Barrado Nikto”, you can see the ventilation holes under the chin of the costume. That is the only scene where they are visible.

That Movie and Forbidden Planet were two of my favorites. Earth vs Flying Saucers was pretty good and I really enjoyed when they did the parody of the Flying Saucer Attack on D.C. from that Movie in Mars Attacks.

>> Damon is a liberal, he doesn’t need any of my money.

The only downside to his wealth is the political influence it might wield; otherwise, it’s circulating in the vast see of capitalism.

The Cloud Minders

Yes! One of my favorites.

I think of it every time I hear about another of the outrageous insult-to-my-intelligence moves that our elites try to foist on this country from Washington DC.

Like Congress exempting itself from the costs of ObamaCare.

He did tell an interviewer, of people who do not agree with him ( or something like that):”Well, they can go and live on another spaceship.

I heard this on the Andy Dean show Friday night, and cracked up.

I hate the movie threads. The high and mighty come out and say they won’t see the movie, but I bet most will sneak and see it and just tell us they won’t. How else did it make 11 million on Friday a lone. Trust me FREEPERS are seeing it too.

On several occasions the wife and I have bought tickets for a "conservative" movie (after seeing it the previous week) and snuck into the "liberal" movie. The best of both worlds the conservative gets the credit and I get to see the other with out them getting my money.

I saw it too. Basically it is a ripoff of a single Star Trek episode from 1969, with other complexities added into it.

Which was a rip off of a pulp SciFi from the late 50's early 60's by One of the greats (Asimov, Heinlein, Ellison,....), called City in the Clouds, or something similar. That was a rip off the Bullfinch's Greek Mythology, with the gods on Olympus having everything and the rest of us being fodder for their petty whims.

“How could you not see the propaganda?”

I was just hoping to go see a movie. There are no movies without some propaganda these days. When they addressed it directly saying “Hey It’s just entertainment” I figured I’d go ahead and see it.

One strategy if you don’t want to support the loons in Hollywood is to wait three or four months until it’s out on DVD, then buy a used DVD/Blu-Ray. There’s no additional profit for Hollywood and it’s a whole lot cheaper than going to the theater.

I just viewed The Light of the Western Stars with Victor Jory as the lead. That man was a veteran, a boxer, and in 1962 went before Congress to encourage an amendment to guarantee God and prayer in schools. He could ride a horse well too. A real man. Many of today's actors couldn't hold a candle to this man.
