Migrant worker and activist allowed to stay in U.S.

Danilo Lopez will be allowed to stay in the country, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) says. Lopez, a Vermont migrant-worker-turned-activist from Mexico, advocated for a new law allowing people without legal status to get drivers' licenses. Lopez was scheduled to be deported on July 5.

In 2011, Lopez was traveling in a friend’s car when a police officer pulled them over for speeding. Lopez was turned over to Border Patrol, detained and released.

Since then, he’s helped Vermont’s migrant worker community get access to driver's licenses. Earlier this year, Lopez said that the campaign for driver's licenses is really important, "because it would give us great mobility...And it’s also about independence."

Immigration and Customs Enforcment had ordered Lopez to leave the country by July 5.

But Lopez decided to fight the decision. He stayed on, and applied for a stay of removal.

Governor Shumlin, Senators Leahy and Sanders, and Congressmen Welch all contributed letters of support.

ICE has now granted Lopez permission to stay in the United States for at least another year.

Lopez left out --previously arrested for DRIVING WHILE LIC SUSPENDED/FINANCIAL SUSPENSION.........http://www.bustedmugshots.com/florida/miami/danilo-lopez/18327691

..... How many Americans are getting letters of support from members of Congress, gov for breaking one law after another law,etc,etc..sneaking into the country..His ability to work, suggests fraudulent documents, tax fraud. Congress and supporters,Senators are becoming numb to our laws and feel we should just ignore them. Why does this illegal need another year.Deport his butt back to Mexico. Illegals keep acting like driving without licenses/insurance is a human right.I assume if he hit somebody with no insurance causing damage to the car and people in the carI doubt we would see Lopez or his supporters protesting paying for accidents,it is a human right, the injured parties deserve restitution. Lopez would either be jailed, deported or given bail and he would flee..Illegals are for law and order when it is a win for them.Otherwise they care not about us at all.

Pretty much sums up what is wrong with the current system.

I’d suggest that instead of deportation to their country of origin, we deport them to Zimbabwe. We could pay Zimbabwe $5K to keep them in a processing camp for a week, and then they could do whatever they want. Not our problem.

If their country of citizenship does not like it, they can pay to bring them home.
