Aren't you glad we have a federal government that is watching every move we make over us? What would we do without them? I found this latest story at What Would The Founders Think. They wrote about it first in February of this year and now the story is coming to fruition. If you are a business owner, ie. someone who employs one or more people, this should give you reason for concern. Once again, the government is sticking its nose where it doesn't belong.
Fox News - The Obama administration is suing Dollar General and a BMW facility in South Carolina for the alleged unfair use of criminal background checks for job applicants, months after warning companies about how such screenings can discriminate against African Americans.Yes, you read that correctly. The Obama administration is suing companies that are using a criminal background check to help decide who they would like to hire to work at their businesses. What seems like a perfectly legitimate way of making sure they don't hire a criminal is a big no-no. Heaven forbid a company choose to not hire someone because they have a criminal background. No, that's a new definition of discrimination. The suits were filed June 11 by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which last year issued new guidelines that cautioned against rejecting minority applicants who have committed a crime and recommended businesses eliminate policies that exclude people from employment based on a criminal record.
I know I am in full sarcasm mode writing this post, but give me a break. I realize not every person who has committed a crime is a career criminal. Some people do change their habits and behavior. It is, however, up to the company making the hiring decisions if they want to risk hiring them or not. It doesn't matter if they are red, yellow, black, or white, if they have a criminal background, any given company is within their rights to refuse to hire them. It is their decision to make, not the federal government's.
This puts companies in a no win situation. They want to make sure the people they hire can be trusted. That's why they run the criminal background checks. The federal government, in its infinite wisdom and desire to force equality down our throats, has decided these companies shouldn't be allowed to do that. Hence, the lawsuits. Another fine example of a federal government that is reaching far past its constitutional boundaries.
Democrat Obama is the most evil monster ever

Ping.
Someone ping me if the GOP musters the courage for a twitter comment or strongly worded letter on this or anything else. I’d have said ‘ping me if they do anything constructive to obstruct/stop this’ but I don’t wish for things that can never be.
He's going into overdrive. And I don't think he's even in the country right now.
un-phuquein-believable
Not really.
haven’t you read that the new Amnesty bill waives all acts of Assault and Battery, Drunk Driving and other crimes for those to be given Amnesty?
If we can waive criminal charges for Hispanics who don’t even belong here why can’t we waive crimes for Blacks who do?
Why should a black man’s record hurt his chances for a job, he only committed that crime to get back at “The Man”.
Isn’t H0lder a serial illegal actor?
What an insult to black Americans!
Because they are black, they are assumed to be criminals!
If that isn’t racist, I don’t know what is...
Magma Copper would be in trouble if it still existed. Now they hired people with criminal records, murder, assault, prostitution, tax evasion as I recall from people I knew. However, thieves and anything to do with drugs - no way. It was a majority minority company.
So, what happens if they do a criminal background check and still hire a black person?
Retailers should hire shoplifters/s.
Will this nightmare ever end?
At a former medical company I worked at, they hired a purchasing buyer, who unbeknownst to all of us had spent 10 years in prison for attempted murder and assult with intent to kill his former girlfriend and her new husband with a knife.
Several months after leaving our company he murdered his estranged wife who had married him not knowing he was an ex-con. He waited for her in her garage killed with an axe.
Background checks? We don’t need not steenking background checks! /sarc.
Yes... Businesses are between a rock and a hard place...they are forced to hire someone with a criminal past and then risk getting sued if that person commits another crime and they are sued for having a known criminal in their workforce...SMH
counter-suit. destroy this idea. businesses have no requirement to hire former criminals. if blacks want jobs don’t be criminals, and that statement is made to the doj who’s saying this is a black issue, not me. if anyone wants a jobdon’t be a criminal and especialy don’t steal from an employer.
