Brief and Direct: Why are Firemen Always the First To Be Laid Off?

After garbage workers, that is.

Maybe because we’ll miss them the most.

Because the President has forgotten he’s already been elected and he’s been campaigning across the country to defeat his own idea, there are too many sources to quote regarding the dire consequences President Obama sees if the sequester, or Budget Control Act of 2011 (BCA), isn’t averted. So without individual attribution here are some of the services we will lose.

Local first responders–fire, police, EMS.

Teachers.

Military “readiness” and “preparedness.”

Airport security and TSA.

Homeland Security. Border Patrol.

FEMA, FDA, NASA.

(Wait a minute, wasn’t NASA killed last year? Here’s one that’s for sure going to save money: the National Drug Intelligence Center, still slated for a $2 million cut to a $20 million dollar budget. Buy it was closed on 6/15/2012. Why does it need a budget?)

FBI, NRC, the federal prison system, SEC.

Sounds awful, until we notice that these “cuts” come out of a budget that’s already scheduled to increase more than the cuts amount to. And that Republicans have offered to give the President emergency authority to allocate these cuts in ways that are “least harmful.”

I don’t get it; are you saying my post was BS, or that the sequester itself is BS, or the worry is BS (i.e. you agree that the threatened services are worth the overreaching services)?

Uh, If you have been reading my posts you would see that I believe that the sequester is good and the White House scare tactics are bad. And I do agree with your post.

In regards to your paranoia however understandable in these times and about your post specifically being "BS", I can do nothing more than suggest professional help.....:)

You live in or near Steubenville, correct?

Yes, within the city limits actually. The city has carried out business “the Steubenville way” for far too long. Local officials demanding greased hands for Walmart and other industries that want to move into the area is a thing of the past, especially in a city that has a tiny tax base. A significant portion of our residents live off of various social welfare programs; therefore, we tax payers are stuck paying higher taxes for the same services that they receive for free. For decades the city has pandered to these people, persuading them to vote for levies because they won’t pay for them anyway. To use a progressive term, this particular practice is unsustainable.

Because Hussain and the left likes to hold citizens hostage. Essentially they are saying if we dont get what we want we will gum up your life. No flights, police seizures, no protctions, no safety, bad roads.

The real cuts come at headquarters but headquarters is immune. People watch that and realize, like in leftist Soviet times, the best defence is to become Leftist.

We are in a totalitarin fascist state and most do not know it or dont care.

Life is going to get a lot tougher.

Unreal: Obama Uses Pending Sequester Cuts As Excuse To Release “Waves” Of Illegal Immigrants From Detention Centers…

"WASHINGTON — The federal government released groups of illegal immigrants from custody across the country Monday at the same time the White House was making its case that impending budget cuts would harm efforts to protect the border and enforce federal immigration laws.

Advocates reported “waves” of illegal immigrants being released from at least three detention centers in Texas, Florida and Louisiana."

The private sector makes cuts in administration overhead, but in no way would the Obama government do that.

Best Buy today confirmed that it has, as part of its Renew Blue transformation efforts, eliminated approximately $150 million in SG&A (administrative expenses), including an approximate 400-person reduction in employee head count in its headquarters.

Gov’t Office Warns Sequester Will Hurt Agency…That Doesn’t Exist Anymore
Feb. 26, 2013 10:35am Becket Adams

Of all the “horrors” the March 1 sequester will inflict on our nation, perhaps the most terrifying are the cuts it will force on the National Drug Intelligence Center, a non-existent government program.

Yeah, let us explain.

Why does Hussein hate firemen?

  1. Because they tend to be manly.
  2. Because they tend not to abuse their power.
  3. Because 'fireman' sounds kind of like 'firearm'.

I am of the opinion that the only reason the Fed gets involved in paying a few cents on every STATE dollar spent on teachers, firemen, and police - is so they can justify the very very high cost and waste in the FEDERAL budget.

These are NOT Federal responsibilities - and almost all of the spending takes place at the STATE level - but somehow the Federal budget cannot even cut the rate of growth - or firemen, police, and teachers will be CUT CUT CUT!!!

People really ARE that stupid.

They are taking advantage of that fact, and the fact that the compliant media will not call them on it.

When I bother listening to these cretins (and the Cretin in Chief) talk about justification for what they do - it always seems to be “Police, Firemen, Teachers”. I guess that sells better than the actual responsibilities (limited and enumerated) of the Federal Government.

We agree on that, sequestration has nothing to do with what is going on with the carriers. All the images being put out by our Phaeroh are simply bluster by the asshat in charge. The WashPost had an article today and the upshot of that article is: what happens after friday when the public sees little or nor change. This guy cannot afford for that to happen so he will have his minions direct that each agency remove as many things as they car which are visible to the public or will cause some kick back.

Local government hacks always seek out the federal tit to cover a little of their excessive, local spending knowing that the spigot will be turned off down the road but enough to keep them in office for awhile.

The same politicians, mostly Democrat local politicians know that they will be out of office and enjoying their taxpayer paid pensions when the federal money stops.

I read a story in the WSJ last year that there are half as many house fires as 30 years ago AND twice as many fire fighters.

Maybe we need to have a discussion about the level of protection that is desirable.

A town in south suburban Chicago has paid on-call firefighters and has been doing very well providing efficient and up-to-date service this way for almost 100 years now and the town has grown 100 times as large.

Interesting.

The only real growth in union employment in 20 yrs has been public sector. Unionized firefighters are one of those “nobody can be against more safety” deals.

The ones in my town seem to spend most of their time walking around Wal-Mart filling up huge carts full of groceries while the quarter million dollar rig idles in the parking lot.
