Barack Obama is perhaps the only modern president who has had the burden of swatting away comparisons between his own soaring rhetoric and that of our 16th president. You may recall that, in the wake of the Newtown massacre, Pulitzer Prize–winning reporter David Maraniss gushed over the president’s remarks, writing, “People will long remember what Barack Obama said in Newtown,” and calling the speech “[Obama's] Gettysburg address.”
Today, thanks to MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, it took less than five minutes for the comparison to be drawn between President Obama’s second inaugural address and, well, all manner of things Lincoln. “It reminds me of another second inaugural, Lincoln’s, so much of Lincoln in that speech, from the Gettysburg Address to the second inaugural itself,” Matthews said...

Obama has done absolutely nothing to help stop violence in the inner city, provide a safe environment for the children of the inner city, and address the social issues that contribute to the perpetuation of generation upon generation of minorities settling for lives that are dramatically less than they deserve and can achieve on their own, without Obama, you, or me.
Obama has followed his inner anger, and acted on the basis of his strongly held and misinformed ideology, but has ignored the great issues of his day. Chris, it's not too late for you to get a clue. Right now you have none, and in as much as you have a soap box you are hurting minorities, significantly. You are in some ways worse than a Klansman, because your robes are not as overtly recognizable as racist. Your words and your actions, however, are almost as hurtful as the Klan ever was. Think Chris. Think.

There is a parallel - given the Civil War that Lincoln faced and the one that Obama is trying to provoke.

Inaugural speech? It was a campaign speech. It’s all he ever does. It’s all he knows.
All this, Chris Matthews, David Maraniss, the Second Coming cover of Newsweek, etc., transcends politics and slithers into a national sickness.
If anything obstructs a liberal, he rids himself of it’s burden. Why would a soul be any different? Having a soul implies having a conscience. And having a conscience implies something greater than one’s self/Id/Ego to be accountable to.
