Many of us hold assumptions about things for which we dont have all the facts. I hear something from a trusted source, and I assume it is fact.
That seems to be true about our local immigrant community. I decided to check into some beliefs about immigrants that get bantered about, and borrowed an information sheet I received from Centro Latino, a local nonprofit organization whose mission is to respond to critical needs of Latinos and to bridge the cultural gap between Spanish-speaking and non-Spanish-speaking members of our community I addressed issues with more current data I found online.
Undocumented immigrants dont pay taxes.
Immigrants pay billions in taxes every year, according to the American Immigration Council. Everyone in the United States pays taxes, regardless of legal status. All unauthorized immigrants pay sales taxes. They also pay property taxes even if they rent.
Unauthorized immigrant households paid $11.2 billion in state and local taxes, including $1.2 billion thats billion in personal income taxes in 2010, according to the website. Unauthorized Latinos in the state paid close to $318 million in state and local taxes in 2010, according to the Institute for Taxation and Economic Policy.
Paying taxes is looked at favorably by the government when determining things like eligibility for legal status, according to Marie Connelly de Palacios, executive director of Centro Latino. Therefore paying taxes, even when wages are paid in cash, is very important to an immigrant.

It’s not as difficult as you might imagine. We do keep records of food stamp recipients by race. Food stamps/EBT are the most basic form of welfare that all welfare recipients receive. ie, you have to be receiving food stamps to receive housing vouchers etc. 17% of all food stamps are given given hispanics (all other illegals are statistically insignificant) for a total of about 6.5 million recipients. Without doing any further math, I can assure you that the numbers just aren’t there to even approach 50%, let alone exceed it.
The only thing “owed” an illegal immigrant is immediate expulsion. No person has a “right” to enter our country, take jobs, attend our “free schools,” get food, clothing, utilities, medical care, housing all at others expense. It is only the degeneracy of Euro Americans that allow this “rights” nonsense to persist.
ITEP: Regressive tax is unfair. Hell the dictionary documents that.. we need a million-dollar, wealthy foundations supported, tax-exempt group of lefties to tell us that?
I pay sales tax of about ten cents on the dollar -- "the rich" should pay $10,000 for every dollar they spend? Would that be fair, ITEP?
ITEP and today's intellectual elite New Normal
For the umpteenth time, Abe tells us what went wrong.
You initiated a policy to tolerate the Marxist-Alinsky radicals and let them rant; not only has it not ceased but was constantly augmented by decades of infiltration and indoctrination. You now have two Americas. In my opinion, it will not cease until a crisis shall have been reached and passed. A house divided against itself cannot stand. I believe this government cannot endure, permanently, half statist and half free; I do not expect the house to fall; but I do expect it will cease to be divided. It will become all one thing, or all the other.
Don’t be dumb none of those racial outfits claiming to represent something called Hispanics wants an audit of who gets what and who pays what.
There is absolutely no point in arguing with someone so dishonest that they can't even acknowledge that difference.
FIFY
Big EFFING deal!! (Borrowing a classic line from our esteemed Vice President).
Is that supposed to make illegal acceptable, to make us like it and want more of it??
Okay Skippy. Let's make a deal. I'll pay "sales taxes" and property taxes - even if I rent and YOU AND YOUR ILLEGALS PAY MY FLIPPIN' INCOME TAXES. DEAL?
Paying sales taxes and property taxes - even if they rent is not the same as pay both of those on top of income taxes also. The author is a moron.
Juan & Maria sneak accross the border, they immediately go to the nearest hospital and enjoy a freee $15K birthing experience, which bestows citizenship on little Hector, who is then eligible for all manner of welfare, medical and other assistance.
Over the next several years, Juan & Maria have 3-4 more free birthing experiences which produce little welfare generators. Soon, they have 5 kids each getting free ($8-$10K/yr) educations to go along with all the other free assistance.
Juan & Maria, however, are hard workers and earn $30K/Yr and get over $8K/yr in EITC and other tax credits (credits?)
Don’t worry, all is good..........According to this article, Juan & Maria pay taxes and contribute mightily to our economy.
bump
Sounds like another Amnesty Liberal fluff piece
Sure, there are illegal aliens who pay taxes (mainly sales taxes to the states where they are currently in)...but they avoid most income taxes (federal and state) since so many are paid under-the-table....and also avoid paying Social Security/Medicare taxes.
But, most importantly, Illegal Aliens take jobs away from American citizens, and, lower the average pay scale for everyone else in the communities they are in. This puts more unemployed and lower-paid Americans on government assistance. In fact, an employer who hires Illegal Aliens over American citizens are the biggest perpetrators of government expansion in this nation
Even if Illegal Aliens themselves caused no net government revenue loss on their own accord....their impact is greatly felt on the Americans who are the taxpayers...or who were the taxpayers
Illegal Alien Amnesty is Anti-American Bigotry
Go back to the DUmp you fraud. You pull numbers out of thin air. It's funny, but in your "About" you talk about the truth and yet you just knowingly spout lies.
Be honest and admit you loathe Conservatives and Liberty. I dealt with your kind often -- arrogant dislike of those that believe in rugged Individualism and Constitutional principles.
Wrong. Only people who own property pay property taxes.
taxes are part of the rent
but when you have 8 families in one house, they ain’t paying their share by any stretch
You are truly and genuinely delusional.
...local immigrant community... Undocumented immigrants... unauthorized immigrants... Unauthorized immigrant households... Unauthorized Latinos...
