(vanity) Has Search been disabled on FR for today?

When I click the Search link, I get a blkank page (Firefox) or an HTTP 403 Forbidden (IE). Has Search been disabled to cut down on server strain? (There may already be posts about this, but I can't find them because I can't search. ;D)

I had the same problem most of the afternoon yesterday whenever I tried to search an article before posting it. It took forever and never did load search results.

Go to Google, type your search query and then add “site:www.freerepublic.com” to the end of it.

Yes, but sadly, inane vanities still get through.

I got the same thing when I tried to do a search on Akin - wanted to see what the latest MO polls were showing.
This is what the Chrome message said:
Access to the webpage was denied
You are not authorized to access the webpage at http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/search?m=all;o=time;q=quick;s=%2Aakin.
You may need to sign in.
HTTP Error 403 (Forbidden): The server refused to fulfill the request.
I noted the message above "You may need to sign in." I signed in, but got the same message.

I tried it just now after seeing your post.
I typed “ohio” into the box above keywords, and got back a bunch of articles with Ohio election themes.

Go to Google, type your search query and then add site:www.freerepublic.com to the end of it. I always assumed there was at least a few hours latency there - but when I filtered on the last 24 hours and sorted by date, I got results as recent as 3 minutes ago. Thanks for the suggestion!

John found some problem with the servers yesterday and corrected it to get things moving at normal speed today. Whatever he did seems to have worked, but it also broke the search feature.

Indeed it is. If this holds up through the rest of the day a lot of us are going to owe Jim Robinson an apology.

I had the same problem yesterday. I tried using the FR search feature on Google Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer and couldn’t get search results on any of them.

Have you seen or do you know what happened to a poster here on FR by the name John Huang2? Haven't seen anything by him for a long long time. He mostly was posting in the middle of the night for us here in Texas. He was sorta like Drudge, really early on many stories.

He posted Monday morning, but has not posted much at all over the past year or so:

You're right, he had a unique perspective on some pretty early reads.

I’m having the same problem. Can’t get my email on my PC but OK on my Apple IPAD2. Hopefully it’s temporary.
To: JustSayNoToNannies
Freerepublic’s search was updated by the very same people who took the easy to use and accurate search that Windows XP had and “upgraded” to the inaccurate God knows what, where and who search feature Windows Vista and Seven now have.
So search is fine, you just don’t know how to index your drives properly. Signed - Mr. Microsoft Vendor
