CBS: Obama Leads in Our D+13 Poll
Big Government ^ | 9-16-12 | Mike Flynn

Anyone following the presidential campaign through the prism of media polls is doing themselves a serious disservice. Virtually every one uses a polling sample that is so heavily-skewed towards Democrats that it distorts the actual state of the campaign. Of course, that is a feature, not a bug of the polls. The polls are specifically designed to drive a narrative that Obama is surging and Romney is struggling. Increasingly, though, the polls are having to go to ridiculous efforts to support this meme. Friday's CBS/New York Times poll, for example, uses a D+13 sample of registered voters. This is absurd.

In 2008, an historic election wave for Democrats, the electorate was D+7. In 2004, when George W. Bush won reelection, the electorate was evenly split. In other words, D+0. Repeat after me; the Democrat share of the electorate is not going to double this year. Given the well-noted enthusiasm edge for Republicans this year, the electorate is going to be far closer to the 2004 model than 2008. Any poll trying to replicate the 2008 is going to artificially inflate Obama's support.

Haven’t polls like that had a history of backfiring by supressing voter turnout?

The lamestream media is going to great lengths to foment a winning message about their anointed one. The next poll will be taken in front of liquor stores in inner-city neighborhoods that accept EBT cards.

No serious person gets their news from CBS, anyway. In fact, as it becomes increasingly obvious that the MSM are trying to drive a narrative, even casual and disinterested news consumers are avoiding them.

The ratings bear this out.

In my fantasies, an incoming Romney administration denies the MSM a seat in the White House press room. It might be more realistic to expect them to defund NPR, which also would be very nice.

In Philly, it might keep the turnout down to 118% of registered voters.

Now they get it from SNL and "The Daily Show" and "The View".

The polls theater that are being distorted by MSM and oversampling the Dems may have an unntended consequence. It may mke the Repubs showvup at the polls i neven larger number to make up for a perceived shortfall so go ahead let the Obama controlled MSM keep spouting fheir false numbers.

The media campaign against Romney is being run straight out of the Oval Office.

I wonder if they would ever report as factually correct the results of a (R)+12 poll ??

Why do their “random” samplings always have a majority of (D)?

The best polls in 2008 were Rasmussan and Pew. Pew isn't really a consistent political pollster. (No tracking polls, etc.)

So I just look at Rasmussan. He has Romney up 2 today and up 2 in the Swing States.

No. But I suspect the real reason for these horribly biased polls that oversample Dems is just the opposite: They are terrified their base isn’t going to show up. I saw one poll that had Zero’s black support at lowest of any Dem since Dukakis.

I know 2010 wasn’t a Presidential election...but does anyone know the breakdown (Republicans, Democrats, Independents) of the voters in that election? Just curious...
