Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan: Though there's been a bit of damage to the C-17 regularly used by General Martin Dempsey, the Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff
-who was thankfully off sleeping in his quarters at the time of today's pre-dawn, two-rocket volley- was not hurt.
No fatalities reported either, but two ground crew were injured and -of course- the Taliban are suspected, who else.
Periodic shelling of Bagram -which is situated north of Kabul- has been known to occur, though it is rare for them to hit anything of value. But General Dempsey was in town for a pow-wow with NATO commanders and Afghan top brass- so his presence may have been leaked to the Talibs.
The hastily-arranged meeting regarded dealing with a surge of attacks on security forces by Afghan federal troops: there have been 32 of these in 2012 already, and ten soldiers (mostly American) have lost their lives in such assaults over the last two weeks: this comes all at the hands of nominal Afghan 'allies'- same ones we were planning to hand the country over-to ASAP.

So the plane was parked when it was hit and the General was asleep someplace other than in the plane. BFD

The point is our Afghan buds probably leaked to the Taliban he was in town.
They rarely hit anything is such random attacks, what a coincidence they hit his plane NO problem, the only day he’s there

Why are we hanging out over in Afghanistan?

“Why are we hanging out over in Afghanistan?”
Why are we hanging out over in Afghanistan, South Korea, Germany, England, Japan etc etc instead of securing our own borders with our troops?????

It’s quite clear than even the people we’re training to secure Afghanistan’s future don’t want us there. We will never suceed in turning that country into anything even resembling a democracy - that type of system is just not in their blood.
It’s time to get out.

Two weeks ago a couple of Afghan nationals, who our idiotic top brass allow them to prepare the food, tried to poison lunch. Rule of thumb, always wait a couple of minutes to observe the area before you take your first bite.
There are thousands of Afghan nationals that work on Bagram and maintain base operations. We have the smartest commanders in the history of warfare running the show right now. Extreme /s
They let nationals sympathetic to the groups that want US soldiers dead in charge of their food preparation, water supply, garbage, laundry, and other utilities. To top all that, the commanders allow the nationals to sell bootleg copies of first run movies which would get a US citizen into financial and possible imprisonment if caught.

Simple really, countries, besides Afghan which the economy consist of opium trading and goat prostitution, refuse to increase defense spending because they are content at our defending them. Also, collectivist with Marxist tendencies masturbate to the fact that European countries are a peaceful bunch who has a low defense spending per GDP ratio. Somehow Euroweenie countries are deemed more righteous then us even though the American tax payer subsidizes their behinds.
Also, logistic reasons in case all hell breaks loose somewhere. I have no problem with Far East Asia and Europe for perpetual staging points/hospital care, but the Middle-East is impossible to perpetuate staging points because the locals refuse to assimilate to Western culture.
