(Vanity, Long) A Campaign of Biblical Proportions, or, A Journey Through 1 Kings Part I

Note 1: I make reference to some Biblical passages in this article. While I am indeed Christian, I disclaim any resemblance to prophecy or interpretation thereof in this essay. Still less am I interested at this point in raising any issues of the mostly Protestant GOP base vs. the Mormon faith of Romney, or the putative crypto-Muslim faith of Obama. The passage given merely provides a convenient literary/historical comparison, and a lead-in of sorts to Part II.

Note 2: Dates are approimate; any pedants who want to quibble are missing the point. Besides, it's past my bedtime.

It has been observed by a number of pundits that the current election cycle is shaping up to become a rather vicious one -- as though this were unknown. Recall such past episodes as the unsealing of the sealed divorce records of Jack Ryan when he was running against then State Senator Obama for the US Senate; the scorched-earth campaign of political and personal destruction against Sarah Palin; the angry rhetoric of “punch back twice as hard” from the very Candidate of Peace, Barack Obama. (Do you recall that, much as John Kerry served in Viet Nam, Obama has won the Nobel Peace Prize in *advance* of his accomplishments, and then turned around and started killing civilians, including U.S. citizens overseas, with unarmed Predator Drones?)

Recall also, that earlier this year, a number of the wise political observers were predicting that the Marquis of Queensbury Bain Capital alum, one Mitt Romney, would not stand a chance against the forces arrayed against him. Even more, it was whispered, surely his Mormon faith would be held against him, most of all by the Republican base, most of whom, while ignorant enough to embrace religion, are yet so provincial as to reject all religions but their own narrow congregation. The advice given ranged from “batten down the hatchets and hope to hold the House, and maybe make the Senate close” to “swap out Romney at the convention for (choose one: Newt Gingrich / Herman Cain / Ron Paul / Sarah Palin / Rick Perry / a stock cardboard cutout of Ronald Reagan).”

But a funny thing happened on the way to Emperor Obaama’s coronation. Call it hubris/nemesis, call it the Tea Party, call it karma, call it the Hand of The Lord God of Hosts. Have you noticed that the formerly inexorable, rigidly disciplined, able-to-summon-a-cresting-wave-of-zombies on a frothing tide of “hope and change” campaign -- has begun -- sputtering?

Let’s take a brief -- though it will still take some time -- survey of some of the highlights and lowlights of the campaign, in roughly chronological order:

First, the economy. This has been pretty much the whole term, and is well depicted by a chart publicized by law professor Glenn Reynolds, who blogs as Instapundit. Remember, this is from the candidate who game the famous speech that “this is the moment the planet began to heal.”

Next, look at the so-called “Arab Spring” which dates from the abortive Iranian revolution (remember Neda!) and includes the mass sexual assault of a female American reporter. Does anyone doubt now that -- at best -- the Obama regime has made a hash of this, which will likely be rued as much as Jimmy Dhimmi Carter’s betrayal of the Shah of Iran? Oh, Iran, that’s right. The ones who are trying to get nukes and saying *in public* that they will nuke another nation-state. When was the last time that the official leader of a nation state explicitly threatened, if not promised, the use of weapons of mass destruction against another nation state -- and on the basis overtly racial/religious bigotry, what’s more -- and didn’t get a resounding bitch-slap from the US?

FORWARD. (You gotta love that slogan.) In August of 2011, the famed green energy quid pro quo green energy company Solyndra filed for bankruptcy.

Starting in the Autumn of 2011 into the Spring of 2012, the “Occupy Wall Street” crowd desecrated a number of cities throughout the U.S. This was pretty much the left’s agitprop/astroturf/adumbration of the truly populist Tea Party movement, with the apparent hope that it would grow and crest organically (har!) much as the 60s gave rise to the anti-Vietnam War movement. Two lessons learned -- first, it apparently takes genuine KGB backing to make a subversive movement work, and second, crapping on police cars does NOT inspire the masses on the sidelines.

A parting shot: the infamous Jared Loughner shooting, which the left immediately blamed on Sarah Palin, despite a massive LACK of evidence. When she had the temerity to use the term “blood libel” to defend herself (how dare a hick from Alaska use an educated concept ! She’s getting uppity!), outrage redoubled until noted leftist, Harvard professor Alan Dershowitz, defended her. This episode showed that the Obama crowd was not about to let little matters like factual innocence stand in their way.

And this willingness to lie and attack the innocent was reinforced by the whole Zimmerman / Martin shooting; with the added bonus (for Obama) of the implicit “racial hatred” angle. I personally think that it is at this point that a number of the “undecided” felt that the Race Card became overdrawn officially; in some circles it is but a breath from suggesting that the Race Card is the new version of Godwin’s Law.

Finding that some of the “old reliable” memes used to fire up the left’s base and silence conservatives had failed, the Obama time almost immediately pirouetted into an appeal to the other standard Democrat base: SLUTS young upwardly mobile unmarried women. (Or, in this particular instance, not so young.) The Dems in Congress arranged a Press Conference with one Sandra Fluke, set up to look as much as possible as official Congressional Testimony for the TV. The press blurb was that she was a concerned undergraduate, fighting against the tyrannical Catholic Church for full reproductive access for women at that Taliban Stronghold itself, Georgetown College. Indignation FAIL. When she was called out by Rush Limbaugh, the left concentrated their withering firepower on getting him removed from the air by force of economic boycott: and indeed, a number of companies “announced” their dissociation from the show, even though they did not have any national ad campaigns with him. The two main casualties (besides truth, as usually happens where Democrats are involved) were a mattress company who had benefited greatly by advertising locally on Limbaugh before his rise to national fame, and computer security company Carbonite. Upon examining the actual financial impact of their actions, the mattress company attempted to crawl back and patch things up with Limbaugh, only to be firmly rebuffed; Carbonite, during the next Wall Street reporting period, showed lower profits and their stock tanked by 15%.

With all of these domestic events going on, let us not forget the hectic pace of world events. In April, Obama was caught on an open microphone promising the Russians that in his next term he would have “more flexibility.” Coupled with his attempts to send the Russians information on US air defense systems, and a stated pledge to nudge the US towards unilateral nuclear disarmament, this did not go over so well with the voters.

It is at this point, I think, that a real change in fortunes for the Obama and Romney campaigns began.

Also in April of this year, the White House team decided it was time to remind the voters of the Romney family dog, Seamus, and his unfortunate trip atop the family car on a vacation -- the dog was apparently so frightened that he crapped all over the top of the car, and (in a biblical sense) his coop runneth over. This did well as painting Romney as elitist and uncaring; until some wag pointed out in response that, according to his own autobiography, Obama ate a dog. Now everyone has had a pooper scooper mishap at one time or another; but most people cannot even imagine eating a dog. The fallout was famous, and predictable: it ran downhill. And since the source was Obama’s own autobiography, there was no way he could credibly deny or spin it. Then, in early May, there came an event which bid fair to resurrect Obama’s esteem: it was announced that US Navy Seals had located and killed Osama bin Laden. There was a brief flurry of applause: until people noticed that Obama was taking all the credit, instead of the Seals. “You didn’t kill that.” (see later). Oh, and the rumors that bin Laden was given a Muslim burial at sea. And the fact that no photographs of his body were released to the public (no catharsis after 9-11. Bad move, Bamster.) And the fact that this was announced all of a sudden, right after Donald Trump had been asking very pointed questions about Obama’s birth certificate...it almost looked like ‘wag the terrorist.’ Obama had been apparently forced to play his trump card before the crescendo of the election.

There were a number of other missteps for the Obama campaign in the merry, merry month of May. And in a related note, campaign genius David Axelrod was sent to make an impromptu speech in Boston -- except that somehow, word got out to the Romney campaign. And a quite unexpected thing happened: hecklers showed up. For Romney. And Axelrod was visibly flustered: this sort of thing is what he was used to dishing out, not receiving. Two can play that Alinsky thing, David. Just so you know.

Also in May, Artur Davis, an African AmericanTM and a state organizer for Obama last time around, changed his allegiance and agreed to help the Romney campaign. This did not bode well for Obama’s future prospects. And another viral marketing effort failed: this was the whole YouTube “I Am Julia” advertisement, designed to show young women just how *empowering* it would be to become a virtual ward of the State for one’s whole life, instead of relying on a man. Except of course, for the child which miraculously appears with no mention of a boyfriend or husband. Perhaps, like Obama, this child also has a questionable birth certificate?

Speaking of mass media failures, the month of June saw the emergence of a skillfully orchestrated journalistic front on “The 1% vs the 99%” with Romney as the archetypical 1%er, presumably meant to be the follow-up to the “I Am Julia” outreach to young women. And the Obama campaign released a fund-raising ad asking hoi polloi to pony up real money for the mere chance to meet with their betters: Obama and some highly-placed friends. Which friends? Only Sarah Jessica Parker (Sluts in the City) and one...Anna Wintour, who narrated the ad. Anna Wintour is the woman behind the fashion magazine Vogue, and is the real-life inspiration for the Bitch Queen Boss character in the book / movie The Devil Wears Prada. Inspired move, there, Bammy, identifying with the little people.

Also in June was one of two events which will probably help decide the Presidential election -- the failed recall of Governor Scott Walker of Wisconsin. Despite the fact that Walker works in the ultra-left state capital of Madison; despite the literal occupation of the State Capitol building during earlier protests, with death threats against state legislators; despite the wholesale demonization of the Koch brothers, and the pouring away of millions of dollars of union dues from all over the country, Walker still won. And the Red States noticed and took heart. If we can defeat leftism by sticking to our guns -- in a historically blue state -- with NO natural advantages...what else can we accomplish?

This episode also put the state of Wisconsin on the national electoral radar, which would prove important later on.

Late in June came the other turning point in the campaign: The much-anticipated Benedict Arnold John Roberts decision, calling Obamacare *legal*, and on specious grounds. Some tried to frame it as a work of genius, stopping the infinite expansion of the Commerce Clause as justification for anything the Federal Government wanted to do: but to others, it raised the spectre of onerous and infinite taxation, allowing the government to forbid any behaviour, or worse, COMPEL any behaviour, merely by calling the tyranny a “tax.”

It was at this point that many people decided, though they did not say it in so many words, that “Obama delinda est, even if we have to vote in Mickey Mouse to do it.” But among the enemies of God, there was much rejoicing: they could now attack religion all but directly, and force great evils, such as paying for abortion, on those who were pro-life, in the teeth of their religious conviction.

And the children of Israel were numbered, and were all present, and went against them: and the children of Israel pitched before them like two little flocks of kids; but the Syrians filled the country. And there came a man of God, and spake unto the king of Israel, and said, Thus saith the LORD, Because the Syrians have said, The LORD is God of the hills, but he is not God of the valleys, therefore will I deliver all this great multitude into thine hand, and ye shall know that I am the LORD. And they pitched one over against the other seven days. And so it was, that in the seventh day the battle was joined: and the children of Israel slew of the Syrians an hundred thousand footmen in one day. But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and there a wall fell upon twenty and seven thousand of the men that were left. And Benhadad fled, and came into the city, into an inner chamber. -- 1 Kings 20:27-30

I think it is quite interesting -- even though there may be no connection -- that very shortly after this point, is where events began to go seriously wrong for Obama. The timeline, over the past four or five weeks, becomes Fast and Furious (har!). In mid-July, the ill-fated “Romney is a felon” smear campaign began. And on July 13, a somewhat rattled off-teleprompter Obama gave utterance to the defining phrase of the campaign, equivalent to Clinton’s “It depends on what the meaning of the word ‘is’ is” or Bush 41’s “Read my lips, no new taxes.” It was four little words:
”You didn’t build that.”

In late July, Senate Majority Misleader Harry Reid (cadaver-NV) began his whisper campaign that Romney hadn’t paid his taxes (according to “unnamed sources in a position to know” or somesuch), together with an orchestrated demand that he release *ten years of tax returns*. Now this was major league gall, considering the utter secrecy with which Obama had guarded or lied through his teeth (remember the “composite girlfriend”?) about his past, combined with his penchant for destroying his opponents through personal dirt. (There was also a similar theme of “Romney is a felon” for reasons which now escape me.) The whole thing was such an obvious fishing expedition that several bloggers began a counter-meme on Reid: ‘Harry Reid has been accused of being a pedophile.’ Since Reid has long been known as vicious, very few people stepped into defend him. And to make it more delicious, in mid or late August a MALE Dem politican from Minnesota was caught having oral sex with a 17 year old boy in a rest stop near Duluth. Someone ought to ask Reid for comment -- and then remind the Dems of one Rep. Foley.

At the end of July, there was a firestorm of faux-indignation when the COO of the Chick-Fil-A fast food chain supported traditional marriage. Several prominent Democrats, from deep blue strongholds such as Boston, Chicago, and San Francisco suggested that the company would be better not trying to expand within their cities. As a counterbalance to this attempted suppression of free speech, ex-GOP Presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee suggested that those who agreed with Cathy all go to EAT at Chick-Fil-A as a show of support. Long lines hit Chick-Fil-A all over the country, even on liberal universities. And the normal people -- those who wish to restore the country from the wreckage that is Obama -- saw that they were not alone.

Then, in the middle of August, the dam seemingly burst. I will not go into detail on these items, as they are all within a week or two ago. But here is a list, in staccato fashion:
Romney’s report card released (where are Obama’s college records?). The infamous “Romney fired me and my wife died of cancer” (Romney left the firm two years before the layoffs, the woman had her own insurance from another job, and died years later; and the Obama planner who denied knowing anything about the ad was on a PHONE CALL with the person from the ad, talking about the allegations in the ad, a month or so before the ad appeared.) Social Security, NOAA, and DHS order millions of rounds of hollow-point ammo (designed to cause gruesome carnage to the human body). Romney picks Ryan as Vice President -- from Wisconsin, which some people dimly remembered as having something to do with a GOP victory recently -- and garners large crowds; Democrat Erskine Bowles, previously on a hand-picked commission for deficit reduction, says that the Ryan plan is pretty good. Current VP Joe Biden makes three gaffes in one week: calling out the name of the wrong state in a speech, saying the US can still lead the 20th century in auto manufacture, and telling black constituents that the banks under Romney will put them in chains. (This was so outrageous, he was even called out on it by Douglas Wilder, the Virginia’s first African American governor.) Sarah Palin announces that Barack Obama should drop Joe Biden from the ticket and replace him with Hillary Clinton (reverse psychology, as Obama is too proud to agree with anything Palin recommends). And it came out within a day or so, that there had been back-channel discussions over that very thing -- so to Sarah, I say, “You GO, grlll.” But wait -- there’s more. A YouTube video released by former members of America’s special forces comes out, blaming Obama for leaking security secrets including methods and unit names, for short term political advantage; this will effectively forestall any effort by Obama to get mileage over the bin Laden death. And finally, it is announced that conservative blogger of The National Review, Dinesh D’Souza, has personally contributed money to the welfare of Barack Obama’s own half brother, living impoverished in Kenya. If Obama is so much more compassionate and generous than Romney, why then did a mere conservative have to help his brother?

So it is quite clear that the Obama campaign is nigh to falling apart at the seams.

Tomorrow I will discuss why this is important, and an IMPERATIVE for dealing with this, for conservatives and lovers of this country. What is more, it ties into the Bible passage quoted today. Stay tuned.

This is one of your best. Bravo. G-d has surely been present, evil has been exposed, and those capable of learning learn and will continue to learn. The close-minded will be forever thus and stupid is as stupid does.

If the Lord of Hosts is the hand responsible for giving us Romney, it is for the purpose of sealing us to judgment. There are very few politicians in this country who are more vile than Mitt Romney, Barack Obama and the elites of the GOPe and DNC. Their lies are famous and oft repeated, but yet you forget all of that so quickly and make these specious arguments about the enemies of God frothing at their mouth over Romney? You pretend that the armies of God are on the side of Romney? You compare us to the Hebrews in their fight against the Philistines? ALL OF OUR LEADERS ARE ENEMIES OF GOD! And it is precisely this hubris, this blindness to the stinking in our own temple, this faith in ourselves and our own understanding, this toleration of the money changers in the highest offices of the land, that is very likely causing God to turn His back on us.

Re-read note one. I was just noting a parallel that those who are openly persecuting the faithful have had a sudden reversal.

I don't like Romney, but he *did* pick a staunchly pro-life, apparently practicing Catholic running mate.

Compare that to the "Catholics" who support Obama such as Pelosi.

Cheers!

There is both good and bad in this fact. The bad is that these Obama fascists may now have to resort to force against the People in order to continue their wrecking the country. We must be very vigilant.
