Hello.
This is not a solicited advertisement.
But this is a plug by HiTech RedNeck for a job board for tech jobs that actually sees a lot of action. Corp-Corp.Com
I only found it by Google searching for tech jobs (OK, so Google is evil -- it's still useful for something). Never saw an ad for it in my life. I was already signed up for Dice and Monster, but that wasn't helping much.
So I signed up thinking it was rinky dink, but thought I might see a handful of job listings. Well my inbox began to bulge with ads and I started answering them, eventually setting up three different resumes for three skill areas. The name suggests that they are a bulletin board for corporate to corporate contracts, and they do support that (if you're a contractor and incorporate yourself, you can use that route), but they also support ads for contracts paying via W2 (normal paycheck with tax withholding) and 1099 (you accept gross payment and pay taxes yourself) and even permanent jobs.
Shortly I was getting six or more phone calls a day alerting me to closely relevant job opportunities. A lot of them were from foreigners who could not speak English very well, but all followed up with email after I confirmed an interest.
One of these, through an oddly named company called MSR Cosmos, progressed quickly to interviews (see my earlier vanity about Germantown) and a job offer which I am on the verge of accepting. A few other leads are close behind, and I am keeping them going till Germantown has actually been realized.
Yes, yes, Maryland stinks politically. Democratville. However, not having a job stinks even more than being in Maryland. Did you know that Maryland has a smaller tax rate for residents than Illinois does now? I didn't till I checked.
So, I'm putting in a plug for corp-corp.com. This might actually be useful to many of you folks.
Hey Chief Jim, is there a tech ping list?
I’d like to alert tech folks needing work to something that’s helpful. Corp-corp.com is not giving me zilch for this plug. I’m just sharing it as a very, very pleased user of their service.
Just remember, when you get that job, you didn’t get it yourself. Someone else did it.
Which might be fine if I'd found another computer job in the meantime, but I couldn't and eventually became a math teacher. Imagine me trying to get another computer job now?
Sadly, had I stayed with the mainframe, I might've had a shot! There are still mainframes out there and fewer people who know how to maintain them, but I moved to the PC and our Novell Network. Learned a little Unix when i had the chance, but my COBOL programming skills are a little rusty these days.
Barack did it!
Shadow are you still keeper of tech ping list? They might be interested to hear about corp-corp.com
