Katie Couric Grills Obama on his Recent Statements about Supreme Court (Satire)

Couric: Let's take a look at what you said recently regarding the upcoming Supreme Court decision on your health care legislation:

“I’m confident that the Supreme Court will not take what would be an unprecedented, extraordinary step of overturning a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically elected Congress.”

You claim it would be "unprecedented" if the justices overturn this law. But isn't that the proper role of the courts, and hasn't it happened many times before?




Obama: Clearly, I was talking about important laws like this, which were enacted during my administation. So since this would be the first time a such a law is overturned, then yes, it is unprecedented.




Couric: I think most people hearing you would have interpreted the word "unprecedented" differently. But let's move on. You also warn that this would be overturning a law passed by a "strong majority" of Congress. However, the law passed the house on a vote of 219 to 212. How can you portray this as a strong majority.




Obama: Well Katie, if I was here with seven of my friends, and all of us were voting for something, and you, alone, were voting against it, I think you would agree that we win by a strong 8 to 1 majority. So in both cases, it's a win by a 7 vote margin.




Couric: Well, again, I think most have a different interpretation of "unprecedented" and of "strong majoirty".




Obama: Perhaps, as you know, many things in life are subjective and relative.
