Heather Mac Donald says California is in for a huge, demographics-driven economic shift:
California is in the middle of a far-reaching demographic shift: Hispanics, who already constitute a majority of the states schoolchildren, will be a majority of its workforce and of its population in a few decades. This is an even more momentous development than it seems. Unless Hispanics upward mobility improves, the state risks becoming more polarized economically and more reliant on a large government safety net. And as California goes, so goes the nation, whose own Hispanic population shift is just a generation or two behind.
The scale and speed of the Golden States ethnic transformation are unprecedented. In the 1960s, Los Angeles was the most Anglo-Saxon of the nations ten largest cities; today, Latinos make up nearly half of the countys residents and one-third of its voting-age population. A full 55 percent of Los Angeles Countys child population has immigrant parents. Californias schools have the nations largest concentration of English learners, students from homes where a language other than English is regularly spoken. From 2000 to 2010, the states Hispanic population grew 28 percent, to reach 37.6 percent of all residents, almost equal to the shrinking white populations 40 percent. Nearly half of all California births today are Hispanic. The signs of the change are everywherefrom the commercial strips throughout the state catering to Spanish-speaking customers, to the flea markets and illegal vendors in such areas as MacArthur Park in Los Angeles, to the growing reach of the Spanish-language media.
The poor Mexican immigrants who have fueled the transformation84 percent of the states Hispanics have Mexican originsbring an admirable work ethic and a respect for authority too often lacking in Americas native-born population. Many of their children and grandchildren have started thriving businesses and assumed positions of civic and economic leadership. But a sizable portion of Mexican, as well as Central American, immigrants, however hardworking, lack the social capital to inoculate their children reliably against Americas contagious underclass culture. The resulting dysfunction is holding them back and may hold California back as well.
Read the whole thing. Lots of startling information in the piece, at least startling to me. For example:
The University of California, California State University, and the community-college system already grant in-state tuition to illegal aliens. (Back in 2003, when thenUC regent Ward Connerly asked university officials why illegal aliens should get a $12,000 annual tuition break when, say, a citizen from Washington State did not, they answered: Our budget will be cut if we dont go along.) This past October, however, Brown signed a bill going even further and granting illegal aliens taxpayer-funded tuition assistance and fee waivers. The so-called California Dream Act was not a popular bill, except among Latinos: 55 percent of voters opposed the law, and only 30 percent of whites supported it, but 79 percent of Latinos approved of it. In one generation, observes CSU San Jose political scientist Larry Gerston, California has gone from outlawing affirmative action and banning nonessential government services to illegal aliens to granting them free tuition subsidies, a change that speaks to the growing pressure of Latinos on the legislative process.
Mac Donald says in the piece that Californias future looks a lot like Mississippis present.
Here’s a link to MacDonald’s piece in City Journal: http://www.city-journal.org/2012/22_1_california-demographics.html.
Heather MacDonald’s article is right on the money.
Hispanics are White (or indian).
There is some good news here. CA will reach a point where its populace can no longer contribute enough money to finance all its utopian laws and regulations.
It appears that a majority of California’s residents will not be American citizens. Secession, leading to its becoming officially a state of the Republic of Mexico, seems a likely outcome, resulting a a few hundred more miles of open border. Just kidding?? I’m not sure.
I don’t know if it’s good news. The socialists in DC will take money from the rest of us to bail them out.
What is that ‘map’ from?
Just because I might eat a burrito once in a while, doesn’t mean that I want to live in the fewking barrio.
I’m already sick of the invasion, and can’t wait to get out.
Not so sure about that respect for authority thing either, given how many illegals are incarcerated and how many continue to commit carnage on the roads here.

Also don’t forget their high rate of teen pregnancies, their high dropout rate, and all those wonderful sex offenders and their charming custom of “rapto.”
Been going down some 40 years now. We've been voting, demonstrating, legislating...nothing changes it.
Some freaks who live east of the Mississippi don't see it as a problem - giving away the nicest state in the Union to Mexico.
But it's a done deal now.
What will it look like?
We have a little laboratory: it's called Mexico.
Hasn't changed much in 500 years.
No reason to believe California won't end up looking the same.
One thing that the government won't tell you is many of these illegals are armed to the teeth once they have settled here, and automatic weapons are widespread in all Latino majority communities. As long as they are not violent, they are left alone and are allowed to do as they please. Eventually, it will be too late to do anything meaningful about it, and that point has likely been passed a long time ago.
Welcome to the third world shithole that was formerly a beautiful place to live in the U.S.
Read Matthew Bracken’s books.
how or why should illegals be able to exert pressure on California?
so whites in Kali will now vote 90 percent GOP like they do in Mississippi?
the highest percentage in the country even with 40 percent black population
fat chance...lol
Mississippi has not had the taxable riches California enjoys since 1860
now stuck with a huge Dem voting bloc of dependents
but very different white people....like from different planets
Not only CA, but most of the American Southwest, too. My question is will they draw a line of demarcation with the muslims who will by then rule the upper Midwest, or will the two entities just battle it out for the whole enchilada?
Don’t write off the upper midwest to moslems. 30 below keeps out the riff raff.
That was a billboard from Absolut Vodka here in California
